EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
In accordance with Waste Licence Register No. W0104-03, Advanced Environmental Solutions Ltd.
(AES) is required to carry out a quarterly assessment of Surface Waters Discharge and Trade Effluent
at its site at Cappancur, Tullamore, Co. Offaly.
The Quarter 4 surface water monitoring was carried out by an Environmental Scientist from Bord na
Móna Environmental on the 19th of November 2015.
Trade Effluent (TE)
All trade effluent generated onsite is sent by tanker to the local authority wastewater treatment plant. If
the effluent is tankered off-site a sample taken and analysed. As no effluent was tankered off-site during
this period, no analysis was completed.
Surface Water
The AES site was visited by Bord na Mona Environmental on a number of dates during Qtr4 to obtain
a discharge sample at SW-1.On each occasion the discharge location was flooded. As a result a
representative sample of the sites discharge could not be obtained for this quarter. The site was also
visited by Mr. Ross O’Dwyer (EPA) on the 2nd of December to carry out surface water sampling, on this
occasion the area was also classified as flooded.
Ammonia concentrations have increased since last monitored in quarter 3 (0.42mg/l to 0.55mg/),
however it is still within the agreed trigger action limit of 0.9mg/l. COD (58mg/l) exceeded the trigger
warning limit (40mg/l) and the trigger action limit (50mg/l).
All remaining results are below both the Warning & Action Trigger Limits as agreed with the Agency and
are within line with previously detected values.
This report is certified as accurate and representative of the sampling and associated analysis carried
out.
Respectively Submitted,

1.0 INTRODUCTION
In accordance with Waste Licence Register No. W0104-03, Advanced Environmental Solutions
Ltd. (AES) is required to carry out an assessment of the Trade Effluent and Surface Water
quality at its site at Cappincur, Tullamore, Co. Offaly on a quarterly basis.
Bord na Móna Environmental was commissioned to perform the sampling and analysis.
Samples were taken from SW1 on the 19th November and returned to the laboratory for
analysis.
This report details the sampling methodologies and procedures followed and describes the
findings of the sampling and analysis.

4.0 DISCUSSION & INTREPERTATION
Surface Water
The AES site was visited by Bord na Mona Environmental on a number of dates during Qtr4 to
obtain a discharge sample at SW-1.On each occasion the discharge location was flooded. As
a result a representative sample of the sites discharge could not be obtained for this quarter.
The site was also visited by Mr. Ross O’Dwyer (EPA) on the 2nd of December to carry out
surface water sampling, on this occasion the area was also classified as flooded.
For comparison and discussion purposes results are compared to their respective Trigger Limits
and the previous monitoring event (see Report Ref: ECS5125 – Qtr 3 2015).
Ammonia concentrations (0.55mg/l) were elevated above the agreed Trigger Warning Limit
(0.14mg/l) on this sampling occasion however the result was below the Trigger Action Limit of
0.9mg/l. The ammonia concentration have increased since the previous monitoring event in
July. COD concentrations (58mg/l) were elevated above the agreed Trigger Warning Limit
(40mg/l) and Trigger Action Limit (50mg/l).
The results of all remaining parameters were found to be below both the Trigger Warning & Trigger
Action Limits as agreed with the Agency. All remaining results when compared to Quarter 3 were
similar with a few slight variations.

ACCREDITED QUALITY SYSTEM
INAB Accreditation
Bord na Móna Environmental analytical laboratories are accredited to ISO 17025 by the National
Accreditation Board (INAB). ISO 17025 accreditation ensures that the laboratory operates a quality
system with technically competent staff. The laboratory has accreditation since 1997 and it is the policy
of the laboratory to achieve and maintain a high standard of quality consistent with client's requirements
in all aspects of the work carried out within the laboratory.
Interlaboratory Proficiency Schemes
To ensure the accuracy of the analytical testing the laboratory participates in several external
proficiency schemes. The ongoing competence of the laboratory and its staff is assessed by
participation in various inter-laboratory proficiency testing schemes, such as LGC Aquacheck scheme
and the EPA Intercalibration programme organised for environmental laboratories throughout Ireland.
Bord na Mona Environmental Laboratory Services & Analytical Laboratory is listed on the EPA’s register
of Quality Controlled Laboratories
Control Chain of Custody
As part of the Quality System in place in Bord na Móna Environmental, measures are taken to ensure
controlled chain of custody. An outline of the chain of custody is given below.
