SCOPE OF ENVIRONMENTAL

PROTECTION

Page 11: Environmental protection for schools - Navotas City Government

A. R.A. 9003 or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act

LAND ( SOLID WASTE)

Page 12: Environmental protection for schools - Navotas City Government

A. It is the degradation of earth’s land surface often caused by human activities and its misuse. Haphazard disposal of urban and industrial wastes, exploitation of minerals, and improper use of soil by inadequate agricultural practices are a few of the contributing factors.

LAND POLLUTION

Page 13: Environmental protection for schools - Navotas City Government

A. R.A. 9275 or the Clean Water Act

WATER ( LIQUID WASTE)

Page 14: Environmental protection for schools - Navotas City Government

A. It is the contamination of water bodies (e.g. lakes, rivers, oceans and ground water).

B. This form of Environmental degradation occurs when pollutants are directly or indirectly discharged into water bodies without adequate treatment to remove harmful compounds.

WATER POLLUTION

Page 15: Environmental protection for schools - Navotas City Government

A. R.A. 8749 or the Clean Air Act

AIR ( AIR POLLUTION)

Page 16: Environmental protection for schools - Navotas City Government

Is the Introduction of particulates, biological molecules, or other harmful materials into Earth’s atmosphere, causing disease, death to humans, damage to other living organisms such as animals and food crops, or the natural or built environment.

AIR (AIR POLLUTION)

Page 17: Environmental protection for schools - Navotas City Government

Effects of Pollution to the

Environment Devastating to

people and animals, fish, and birds.

Unsuitable for drinking, recreation, agriculture, and industry.

Destroys water life.

Health problems Damage to the

environment Damage to property Thinning of the

protective ozone layer of the

atmosphere which is leading to

climate changes

Practical Solutions to Pollution of Environment

Do not litter.Participate in the clean

up of bodies of water.Plant trees to prevent

soil erosion.Minimize use of

disposables.Unplug appliances

when not in use

Do not burn trash.Observe regular tune

up of motor vehicles.Protect mangrove

areas. Use renewable

energy(solar, etc.) Use energy efficient

lights and appliances

Reduce

Reuse

Recycle

Practice Solid Waste Management

Page 21: Environmental protection for schools - Navotas City Government

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

• Recyclable products are usually made out of things that already have been used. It usually takes less energy to make recycled products than to make new ones. The less energy we use, the better. • By recycling half of your household waste, you can save 2,400 pounds of carbon dioxide annually.

Continuous Clean Up Activities

WHAT CAN WE DO???

Page 26: Environmental protection for schools - Navotas City Government

• Conserve the use of electricity and water

•Put out lights that are not in use or close the television when nobody is watching According to studies abroad, 75% of electricity consumed at home is stand by power to keep electronics running while they are off.

Page 27: Environmental protection for schools - Navotas City Government

•Drive Less and Drive Smart

Less driving means fewer emissions. Besides saving gasoline, walking and biking are great forms of exercise.

Page 28: Environmental protection for schools - Navotas City Government

Plant a Tree

A single tree will absorb approximately one ton of carbon dioxide during its lifetime. During photosynthesis, trees and other plants absorb carbon dioxide and give off oxygen.

Educate yourself, your family, your friends, your co-workers and everyone you meet.

The more people are aware of the issues the more likely they are to make decisions that will be constructive!

Be active - Speak up in a positive way in your local community and organization and help others to commit to reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Promote Public Awareness
