Healthcare Waste Management Toolkit
Taking Responsibility:
UNDP is developing a practical toolkit for healthcare waste management
Assessing the Impact of Global Fund Grants
To assess the possible environmental impact of GF grants, rapid assessments on healthcare waste were carried out
Recommendations generally applicable to all GF-financed health programmes:
a) Provision of HBV vaccination to social workers and outreach staff and access to post exposure prophylaxis
b) Strengthen the disposal systems for waste from IDU
c) Include sharps containers and safety boxes in the supply plan for syringe exchange actions
d) Include a budget for the safe disposal of unusable pharmaceuticals
e) Review of the system for the selection of syringe sizes for PWID
f) Organize a workshop on the management of waste generated during GF grant activities
Assessing the Impact of Global Fund Grants: Belarus
Context specific recommendations for the GF programme in Belarus:
a) Review of the existing regulations on healthcare waste management
b) Review of the existing regulations on pharmaceutical waste management
c) Support the development of a national healthcare waste management strategy and development plan
d) Strengthening the usage of existing, advanced treatment options

International Environmental Conventions on Chemicals
This novel and unique tool will allow procurement practitioners to measure and monitor the status and progress of healthcare procurement related to the compliance with International Environmental Conventions
The indicators proposed as part of this guide are intended to serve as a building block of the GPIH and the compliance with International Environmental Conventions might be considered as one of the pillars for the development of the Index
INTRODUCTION
