This simulation model helps in understanding the principles of a Continuous Stirred Tank Reactor (CSTR). The simulation model consistsofaReactorwithStirrer.Thereactants,EthylAcetateandSodiumHydroxide,enterthebottomofthereactor,whereresidencetimeisprovidedforthereactiontoreachsteadystate.TheSaponificationofEthylAcetatewithSodiumHydroxideisasecond order exothermic reaction.

CH3COOC2H5+NaOH------>CH3COONa+C2H5OH(exothermic)EthylAcetate+SodiumHydroxide------>SodiumAcetate+EthylAlcohol

Thereactantsarewellmixedbythestirrer.Theproductmixture,containingSodiumAcetate,EthylAlcoholandunconvertedreactants,leavethereactoratthebottomafteroverflowingthroughaninternalstandpipe.
