MARKS MUSINGS"PLEASE, GOD, GETINTOMYHEADBEFORE I DO. AMEN."

A parishioner shared this prayer with me recently and I have been

using it just about every day now. Although the words are comical, they speak to a lot of truth. How often do we let ourselves into ourheads before God? Sunday morning is an easy time to rememberGod. But other times, like driving our cars while dodgingtriathlons, or dealing with difficult personalities, among others, areall times when we struggle to center ourselves on God.

This is why I believe it is important to have a healthy prayer life, in

which, we are able to keep our lives in constant conversation withGod. The prayer mentioned above has helped me this week.Perhaps a different prayer will be better at another time. Iencourage you to explore different ways and places to pray. Pray inthe car. Pray in the shower. Pray while surfing. Pray before yourmeals (we all probably need to work on this one, right?). Pray when

you wake or before you go to sleep. Prayer with others;family, friends, or even a stranger. However you pray, make it a part

    of your being.

Prayer and what we pray for is important. But what is mostimportant is that our prayers keep us in constant communication

with God, so that we will live our lives with Him in mind more sothan ourselves.

More than forty youth and their parents attended EYCs Kick-Off Event, a two-hour block full of activity andfellowship on September 11 to start the new school year.

The group began the evening with a 9/11 Remembrance, led byThe Rev. Mark Powell. The youth, their parents and the EYC volunteers gathered in the chapel, stood closelytogether at the altar and read a Litany of Remembrance,Penitence and Hope.

Following the 9/11 Remembrance, everyone ate Moes take-outand the Parish Hall buzzed with chatter and laughter. Youthtold stories, tried on their new t-shirts and waited for a secondround of tacos. Mean while parents had theopportunity to get to know each other and the new EYC

    volunteers.

After dinner Katie and Erin, the EYC program leaders, briefedthe parents. The Rev. Mark Powell, EYCVolunteers and youth developed an EYC prayer and managedto get in a game of four-square.
