Based on a strategic partnership, both companies plan to introduce and further develop precious metal-based applications to the jewellery and watch industry. The product and services offerings will range from consulting, direct metal laser-sintering, or DMLS- based design processes, the production of precious metal parts and the development and production of special precious metal alloys for the additive manufacturing process. They also plan to develop a bespoke solution chain for high-volume jewel- lery production. “With this technology, 3D bespoke jewellery and watch components can be created from CAD files,” said Stella Layton, CEO of Cookson Precious Metals. “ This takes us on an exciting journey, permitting the creation of highly complex and intricate designs that weren’t think- able before. (ATI) says that its ATI 2003 lean duplex stainless alloy has been selected for a range of of topside structural components for a major offshore project in the Norwegian North Sea.

ATI 2003 lean duplex stain-less was chosen over 316L stainless and coated carbon steel for topside secondary and outfitting structural com-ponents in order to improve corrosion resistance and reduce weight.

“ATI 2003 alloy creates value for our customers by

providing opportunities for significant cost savings and strength-to-weight advan-tages compared to materials currently employed,” said Rich Harshman, chairman, president, and CEO of ATI.

ATI 2003 lean duplex stain-less steel is a molybdenum-enhanced, proprietary duplex stainless alloy. It has a Pitting Resistance Equivalency number (PREn) of 30 and is a more corrosion-resistant, higher strength, and cost-effective material for new plat-forms in the harsh North Sea environment, according to ATI.
