LIVING OUR FAITH

Panel Discussion, "Family Matters: Black, White, and Brown" The panel is discussion is scheduled for July 17, 2017 at Ascension Parish (Multi-Purpose Room) from 7-9 pm. This will be a discussion on the American Fami-ly and an objective will be to openly discuss stereotypes held across racial lines in our community. The purpose is to dispell the myths, unravel the truth, and answer the hard questions. A significant portion of the time will be dedicated to Q&A where people in the audience can share questions they have in mind with the expert panelists during the even-ing. The contact person for this event is Bernie Sammons, cell 314-853-6391.

No man is an island, says the poet John Dunne, and no priest does his work independent of his brother priests. I am so grateful to be able to return to Epiphany and to be able to follow a truly wonderful man and pastor in Fr. Pastorius. This parish will truly miss him and I learned a lot from him as I was acclimating to the Catholic Church. In the same way that priests form a brotherhood, so too do priests form a unity with the Body of Christ. Epiphany is the faithful, vibrant parish that it is not because of your priests as much as because of you all. This is your parish; I’m merely here to serve you. In the Body of Christ, we all have our place, our role, our mission that is ours alone, uniquely given by God. I look forward to what God has in store for us here at Epiphany over the coming years.

Stewardship “…whoever does not take up his cross and follow after me is not worthy of me.” - MATTHEW 10:38 Pope Benedict XVI said “The world offers you comfort. But you were not made for comfort, you were made for great-ness”. “Comfort” puts me first. “Picking up your cross and following Jesus” puts God and others first. Why settle for com-fort when you can achieve greatness! Pick up your cross, ask Jesus for guidance on using your gifts and live the life God intended for you!

Prayer of Thanksgiving for Freedom

Freedom is enshrined in our US Constitution. The First

Amendment of our constitution protects our freedom of speech. However, our speech may not infringe upon an-other's freedom. Freedom does have its limits. And we

must protect everyone's freedoms, not just ours. On this 4th of July, let us remember from whom all our freedoms

originate, our good and gracious God. Let us pray...

God, giver of all good gifts,

Help us to be thankful for rest and food, and remember that, in all we do or say,

you are with us, here this day. We are thankful for all you do

and for everything you have given us. But above all we are thankful for our freedoms

and the ability to protect others' freedom. We are free because of you.

We ask for your continued blessing on all your creation. Through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen.
