Tomorrow shall be my dancing day: I would my true love did so chance To see the legend of my play, To call my true love to my dance: Sing O my love, my love, my love; This have I done for my true love. In a manger laid and wrapped I was, So very poor this was my chance, Betwixt an ox and a silly poor ass, To call my true love to my dance: Refrain Then afterwards baptized I was; The Holy Ghost on me did glance, My Father’s voice heard from above, To call my true love to my dance. Refrain

The candidates for Holy Baptism will now be presented. The congregation remains seated, as the candidates and their families stand.

The service continues in the Book of Common Prayer, p. 301, with the presentation and examination.

After all have been presented, the Presider invites all to stand, as they are able. Will you who witness these vows do all in your power to support these persons in their life in Christ? We will.

Making & Renewing Baptismal Vows Let us join with those who are committing themselves to Christ and renew our own baptismal covenant. Do you believe in God the Father? I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.Do you believe in Jesus Christ, the Son of God? I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead.Do you believe in God the Holy Spirit? I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Will you continue in the apostles’ teaching and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in the prayers? I will, with God’s help.

Thanksgiving over the Water Remain standing. At 9 am. Book of Common Prayer, p. 306 The Lord be with you. And also with you. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give God thanks and praise.

We thank you, Almighty God, for the gift of water.Over it the Holy Spirit moved in the beginning of creation.Through it you led the children of Israel out of their bondage in Egypt into the land of promise. In it your Son Jesus received the baptism of John and was anointed by the Holy Spirit as the Messiah, the Christ, to lead us, through his deathand resurrection, from the bondage of sin into everlasting life.We thank you, Father, for the water of Baptism. In it we are buried with Christ in his death. By it we share in his resurrection. Through it we are reborn by the Holy Spirit. Therefore in joyful obedience to your Son, we bring into his fellowship those who come to him in faith, baptizing them in the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Now sanctify this water, we pray you, by the power of your Holy Spirit, that those who here are cleansed from sin and born again may continue for ever in the risen life of Jesus Christ our Savior. To him, to you, and to the Holy Spirit, be all honor and glory, now and for ever. Amen.

The Baptism Be seated. At 9 am.The Candidates are presented by name to the Minister, who pours water upon them, saying:

N., I baptize you in the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. A priest marks the baptisand’s forehead with the sign of the cross, saying:

N., you are sealed by the Holy Spirit in Baptism and marked as Christ’s own for ever. Amen. A candle is given to the sponsors with these words:

N., receive the light of Christ and take it into the world. Amen. After the candidates have been baptized, all stand.

Gracious God, we thank you that by water and the Holy Spirit you have bestowed upon these your servants the forgiveness of sin, and have raised them to the new life of grace. Sustain them, O Lord, in your Holy Spirit. Give them an inquiring and discerning heart, the courage to will and to persevere, a spirit to know and to love you, and the gift of joy and wonder in all your works. Amen. Let us welcome the newly baptized. We receive you into the household of God. Confess the faith of Christ crucified, proclaim his resurrection, and share with us in his eternal priesthood.

The Peace All stand. The peace of the Lord be always with you. And also with you.

The Ministers and People greet one another with a sign of Christ’s Peace.

11:15 am Anthem Carl Rütti (b. 1949) 6 pm arr. John Jacob Niles

I wonder as I wander out under the sky,how Jesus the Savior did come for to diefor poor ornery people like you and like I.I wonder as I wander, out under the sky.

When Mary birthed Jesus, ’twas in a cow’s stall, with wise men and farmers and shepherds and all.But high from God’s heaven a star’s light did fall, and promise of ages it then did recall.

If Jesus had wanted for any wee thing,a start in the sky, or a bird on the wing,or all of God’s angels in heaven for to sing,he surely could have it, ’cause he was the King.
