Current Tree Canopy Cover = 15% (Living Melbourne, 2019)

Eastern Suburbs = 25% Northern = 12% Inner Metro = 12% Western = 4.2%

Target Tree Canopy Cover 2050 = 20-30%

DELWP/RMIT mapping shows Metro Melbourne lost 5% of its tree cover from 2014-2018

How best to deliver the EPR

Source: Tree and Design Action Group, UK

Response to EvidenceIssues1. Graeme Lorimer Issues:

• EES to compensate for loss of all types of vegetation (understory and grasses) from “amenity planting” areas

• TCRP should include plants other than trees• TCRP does not compensate for loss of 25-300 year old trees• Contracts should specify size of area to be planted and density of all plant types

at 5 or 10 years after planting• EPR date of 2045 seems unenforceable

2. Robert Galbraith Issues:• Uncertain about how whether replacement plantings in Manningham will lead

to replacement of canopy that will be lost due to NELP.

3. Sarah Bekessey Issues: • Makes value statements regarding the benefits of the urban forest and the

impacts on it by NELP.
