Smart & Green mobility solutions from the Netherlands pave the way for clean, smart & safe mobility!
The Netherlands' centuries-old tradition of creativity, entrepreneurship,
openness and willingness to collaborate has proven to be the ideal breeding
ground for high-tech key enabling technology solutions for smart mobility,
energy savings and green transport. The Netherlands has an ecosystem with
world class suppliers, knowledge institutes and service providers. From design,
architecture, the production of cars and the equipment required to make them,
through to innovative new technologies and smart mobility solutions. Well
known multinationals are DAF Trucks, Tata Steel, VDL, NXP Semiconductors,
TomTom, Akzo-Nobel, DSM, Philips, Inalfa Roof Systems, Brabant Alucast, Ten
Cate, Koni etc. But there are also a large number of SMEs that actively design,
test, and simulate automotive solutions. We are strong in smart & green mobility
solutions and technologies, such as Electric Vehicle Technology, Energy Saving
Technologies and Connected and Cooperative Driving.
With over 90,000 EVs charged every day, the Netherlands runs one of the world’s
largest and most advanced charging infrastructures. The Netherlands is an international
testing ground for large scale market introduction of electric mobility. Heavy Duty
Electric Vehicles (With battery only and with fuel cells) are to be introduced very soon.
Also The Netherlands has a full coverage of charging stations and will install several
hydrogen fuelling stations in the coming years. The highly developed and dense traffic
network in the Netherlands, perfect traffic management and the 4G penetration rate
makes the Netherlands ideally suited for developing, testing and implementing Smart
Mobility applications.

The demand for green mobility solutions and thus lighter structures is continuously
increasing. The Netherlands is strong in light weight components and materials,
bio based materials and is Europe’s number one in recyclability by re-use, recycling
thermoplastic composites and thermoset polymers and remanufacturing. The whole
chain (infrastructure) has been put in place for smart materials. Automotive Industrial
companies and knowledge institutes have strong expertise and specialization in
sustainable and smart manufacturing. Public-private partnership is stimulated with
schools and knowledge institutes to provide the highest level of education.
We are proud to contribute to solutions for the global challenge of mobility.
The Netherlands is known for its pragmatic mentality, its smart application of
technologies, its partnerships between industry, research institutes and government,
and its flat organization structure. It’s a great place to live and work. Our cluster
organisations, AutomotiveNL & RAI Vereniging, connect all Dutch knowledge institutes
and companies in the full value chain, thus enabling

Paving the way for electric mobility
The Netherlands is an international testing
ground for large-scale market introduction
of electric mobility with clear goals for the
roll-out of electric vehicles:
200,000 electric vehicles by 2020 and
1,000,000 by 2025 with 100% zero-
emission public transport by 2025 (and in
the City of Eindhoven by 2020). Heavy Duty
Electric Vehicles (hybrids, battery only and
fuel cells) are to be introduced very soon.
The Netherlands also has a full charging
station infrastructure and will install several
hydrogen fuelling stations in the coming
years.
Smart Mobility solutions
The Netherlands leads the way in Smart
Mobility. The highly developed and
dense traffic network in the Netherlands,
perfect traffic management and the 4G
penetration rate make the Netherlands
ideally suited for developing, testing and
implementing Smart Mobility applications.
In the Netherlands the world’s first
shockwave reduction project, which applies
car2x communication in ‘normal’ traffic,
was introduced on the A58 highway that is
equipped with cooperative roadside units
(WiFi-P). Furthermore, WEpods (without
steering wheel or pedals) drive on a fixed
route between Ede and Wageningen
from the railway station to Wageningen
University.

Areas of expertise: Materials
The demand for lighter and/or stronger
materials leads to different technology
solutions.
The Netherlands is strong in lightweight
components and materials as well as
bio-based materials, and is Europe’s
leading exponent of recyclability by re-use,
recycling and remanufacturing.
All our materials partners are specialists
with their own expertise in the development
of knowledge-intensive innovations. In
plastic and composite, steel, aluminium
and hybrid solutions along with related
manufacturing systems.
Production technology
Automotive industrial companies and
knowledge institutes have significant
expertise and specialisation in sustainable
manufacturing, smart manufacturing
(i.e. digital and virtual factories), high-
performance manufacturing & equipment
and new manufacturing systems that
generate smart products (i.e. additive
manufacturing).
DAF Trucks and VDL Nedcar in the south of
the Netherlands, which produces the Mini,
and Scania in the north of the Netherlands
have top quality, highly automated
production systems.

Lightyear OneThe electric car that charges itself
Lightyear is a spin off of the world champion ‘Solar Team
Eindhoven’. We envision a rapid scale up of electric vehicles
worldwide.
At the moment the most important bottleneck in the
shift towards electric vehicles worldwide is the lack of a
sufficient charging infrastructure. Lightyear circumvents this
problem by offering ‘The Lightyear One’ a solar powered
car which is therefore independent of the charging
infrastructure. Our goal is to have a driving prototype
finished by the end of 2018 and first deliveries in 2019.
Would you like to see the car already? Come visit our stand
and have a look at our 3D model in VR!

Smart Mobility to facilitate Smart Cities
As a technology integrator, Technolution collaborates with
its clients in order to create innovations. For example: smart
mobility solutions involving smart cities. A smart city can cope
with changing environments in a flexible manner. Interaction
with vehicles is thus of great importance. Technolution has
developed multiple applications, including FlowPatrol (for traffic
flow control on highways) and GreenCatch (for traffic flow in the
city, taking environmental effects into account, for both cars
and trucks as well as public transport and cyclists). Creating
green waves also requires support from the traffic center. A
coordinated network-wide traffic management is necessary for
making connections between management goals and traffic
strategies, and for the actual configuration and control of the
roadside instruments. Technolution developed MobiMaestro; a
traffic network management system for adjustment and control.
