In this welding process, an electric arc is created between a coated consumable electrode and the

work piece to be welded, causing the parent material to be fused together and the electrode to melt.

The electrode is of a similar material to the parent material and by melting both together it provides

the weld (or joint) with a reinforcing filler material. The electrode has a flux coating of either a basic,

rutile or cellulose type, as the coating burns it protects the arc and weld pool from the surrounding

atmosphere with a gaseous shroud. The slag which solidifies over the newly deposited weld also

protects it from the atmosphere whilst cooling.

In this welding process, the electric arc is generated between a non-consumable tungsten electrode and the work piece to be welded. An inert gas atmosphere, usually argon, protects the weld pool. Welding can be done by simply fusing of the parent material together, or with the addition of welding rod similar to the parent material. The rod is allowed to melt in the electric arc and will fill and reinforce the weld joint.

Arc ignition is achieved by touching the work piece with the electrode and lifting it by a few millimetres (contact ignition and lift ignition) or by using a high frequency voltage discharge, a gap of about 4 mm is maintained from the tungsten electrode and the work piece, high frequency spark is generated. This makes the air gap conductive, and allows the arc to be established without touching of the work piece with the tungsten electrode, no tungsten contamination can occur (High Frequency ignition).

The following can be used:- DC current is used with most metals (steel / stainless steel).- AC current is ideal for welding aluminium and other materials containing surface refractory oxide.

Invertec® V160-T & -TP Designed and engineered for durability

The Invertec® V160-T & T-Pulse TIg and Stick welders combine a rugged industrial construction with excellent arc characteristics. They are full function DC TIg inverters with excellent arc control. Their built-in gas solenoid and choice of High Frequency or Touch-Start TIg starting make them ideal for a wide variety of DC TIg applications. They can also weld stick with a variety of popular Lincoln stick electrodes. Their portable rugged design makes them ideal for both in shop or field use. A unique feature of the V160-T Pulse is the variable high frequency Pulse that allows the welder to adjust the arc focus to suit the applications.

Powertec® 305C, 355C, 425C PROPremium arc,synergic style

The Powertec® PRO range of MIg welding machines is superior in all respects. All have excellent arc characteristics and very low spatter levels with argon mix or 100% CO2 shielding gas. The extensive set of features on all Powertec® Pro includes 2/4-step run-in, wire inch and gas purge. Two digital meters indicate clearly the welding voltage and amperage, which when combined with the synergic control, allows optimum and easy setting with controllability. This heavy-duty, industrial, three-phase multi-process power source scores big in MIG, flux-cored, submerged arc, stick and DC TIG welding. It’s a great choice for arc gouging too. The LF 33S, 33, 34 and 35 are wire feeders designed to withstand the extreme environmental conditions. With these feeders we focussed on ruggedness, dimensions and ease of use. The mechanics of the Submerged Arc Welding process (SAW). both the Arc and the weld metal

are submerged beneath a layer of flux. This layer protects the weld metal from contamination and

concentrates the heat into the joint.

The molten flux rises through the pool, de-oxidising and cleaning the molten metal. It then forms a

protective slag covering over the newly deposited weld. The range of applications can be anything

from 2mm thick material, increasing with no upper limit. Sub-arc is one of the most versatile welding

processes. All steel grades, from non to high alloyed including Ni-based, can be welded with a

combination of various application techniques.

Ranging from a single electrode-single power source to a combination of twin wire, tandem and
