MINI-LINK HC is a compact microwave radio solution for voice and data transmission at 155 Mbit/s, that is SDH STM-1 or SONET OC-3, operating within 7-38 GHz frequency bands.

OVER VIEW OF ERICSSON MICROWAVE SYSTEM:

The system comprises an indoor unit (IDU) and an outdoor unit (ODU). The units are connected by a single coaxial cable carrying traffic and DC supply. The IDU holds traffic, modem, service and switching functions while the ODU, which comprises a radio unit and antenna, transmits and receives radio signals.

The radio unit can work in either fixed or adaptive output power mode. In the latter case the transmitted power is controlled according to the level of the received signal at the far-end, which reduces interference. Modem units are available for 16 QAM or 128 QAM, which allows deployment of radio links with high spectral efficiency and system gain.

Local management at site is performed from the Local Craft Terminal (LCT), which allows access to all operation and maintenance facilities on the terminal, by communication with a web server in the terminal. Terminals can also be supervised remotely from MINI-LINK Manager, as well as from a Network Management System (NMS), when connected to a TCP/IP based Data Communication Network (DCN).

The AMM houses the plug-in units and is designed for fitting in a 19" rack or cabinet. There are two types of AMM:• AMM1U-1isused for 1+0 terminals and can house one MMU and one TRU.• AMM2U-4ismainly used for 1+1 or two 1+0 terminals and can house up to four units; for example two MMUs, one TRU and one ETU.

There are two main types of plug-in unit, Modem Unit (MMU) and Traffic Unit (TRU), which can be complemented by the optional Ethernet Interface Unit (ETU).

1. Modem Unit (MMU) –

The MMU is the indoor interface with the radio unit and contains a modulator/demodulator. The MMU provides traffic capacity of 155 Mbit/s and is frequency independent. One MMU per radio unit is required.

2. Traffic Unit (TRU)-

The main function of the TRU is to generate and terminate an SDH STM-1 or SONET OC-3 signal and transmit it to or receive it from the MMU.

3. Ethernet Interface Unit (ETU )-

The main function of the ETU 155 is to map Ethernet and tributary (E1/DS1/J1) traffic into the SDH synchronous traffic.The ETU 155 is installed in the bottom slot of the AMM and can be used in unprotected (1+0) and protected (1+1) mode of operation.

Fan Out :

To guarantee sufficient cooling for the plug-in units, a fan unit is always fitted ontop of the AMM. One fan unit per AMM is required.

DC Distribution Unit (DDU):

The optional DC Distribution Unit (DDU) is used for distribution of primary DC power to a maximum of five MMUs or fan units. Each output is protected by an automatic type fuse (6 A) combined with an ON/OFF switch.

Input DC Voltage 24 – 60 V, nominal (20.4 – 72.0 V including tolerance)

1.Fit the four captive nuts to the rack.2. Fit the radio cable panel and the earthing cable to the rack and tighten the screws.3. Connect the other end of the earthing cable to station ground.

1.Insert the earthing cable into the fan unit. The earthing cable can be inserted in four different ways, through either of two holes in the front or in either side of the fan unit.2. Connect and tighten the earthing cable inside the fan unit.3. Connect the other end of the earthing cable to station ground.Note: The fan alarm cable, included in the fan kit, is connected to the fanunit when the hardware installation is completed.

Radio Unit:

There are two types of mechanical design of the radio unit, RAU1 and RAU2.

The radio unit is a microwave radio with RF transceivers, which transmit and receive RF signals. Traffic signals from the indoor units are processed and converted to transmitter frequency and sent over the hop.
