MINI-LINK LH, ETSI The Ethernet Trunk Radio for network evolution to all-IP

MINI-LINK LH is a new product in the market leading MINI-LINK Product Family. It provides up to 4 Gbps over one antenna and is well suited for LTE Higher Radio Access Network Mobile Backhauling. MINI-LINK LH contains an integrated high capacity Ethernet switch and Carrier Grade Quality of Service well suited for LTE and the evolution to all-IP.

The Adaptive Modulation enables substantially higher average traffic capacity than standard SDH trunk systems. The Trunk Radio also has an integrated short haul capability.

MINI-LINK LH - the Ethernet Trunk Radio with High Microwave capacities for youR network evolution to all-IP MINI-LINK LH is breaking capacity barriers previously completely out of reach for microwave systems. Building on proven platforms from MINI-LINK TN and Marconi LH, the new trunk radio system is addressing new application areas with solid technology. Seamless integration of MINI-LINK short haul systems gives reduced footprint and simplified operation.

Trunk Radio based on the world’s most widely deployed multi-service microwave system MINI-LINK LH supports multi-carrier radio link operation over long distances. Full Gbps-data streams are created by Radio Link Bonding of multiple radio links into one data stream. This results in a microwave system with very high transport capability well prepared for capacity upgrade of existing microwave links and expansion of network coverage.

Typical applications are: * New roll-out of mobile backhaul networks. MINI-LINK LH supports all-IP Ethernet Backhaul preferred in new mobile networks, with the necessary Ethernet quality of service. * Evolution of mobile backhaul networks. With the current increase of data traffic in the mobile network, MINI-LINK LH meets the demand for microwave Ethernet connections in the Gbps-range. * Fixed Broadband over Microwave. High capacity Ethernet microwave is used to close rings in the metro and core part of the network. It is also used for building complete rings in areas where microwave offers a more efficient solution than optical fibre, e.g. in difficult terrain or when short implementation time is critical. * Private communications networks like Enterprise and National Security.

Best in class spectrum efficiency Ericsson’s trunk radio systems provide best in class spectrum efficiency and make the most out of available frequency spectrum. Up to 4 Gbps of data can be transmitted in as little as 4 x 56 MHz of frequency bandwidth using cross polar interference cancellation, XPIC. There is no restriction in the channel arrangement; each

immediate channel neighbour can be used in both polarizations.

Adaptive Modulation In a native Ethernet connection with different traffic classes, it is possible to get full benefit of Adaptive Modulation. MINI-LINK LH supports Adaptive Modulation between 4 and 512 QAM enabling a significant increase in the average data rate. High volumes of best effort traffic can be transmitted under normal weather conditions. With Ericsson’s solution you will get no bit errors during the modulation change and the constant delay is crucial for network sync. The MINI-LINK Adaptive Modulation is designed for Carrier Grade networks, it handles complex selective/multipath fading as well as rain fading in frequencies where this is a concern.

1 Gbps data streams with Radio Link Bonding With the unique Layer 1 Radio Link Bonding feature in MINI-LINK, an Ethernet data stream is segmented and transported over multiple radio links. Radio Link Bonding secures an even load balancing and thereby maximizes traffic throughput. Should one of the links suffer disturbances, the Graceful Degradation feature secures that no priority traffic is lost, only best effort traffic will be affected. In this way, no spare protection channels need to be allocated. All spectrum is used for pay-load.

Integration of Short Haul radio links Slots in the Access Module Magazine that are not used for the long haul radio link can be fitted with any type of short haul modems from MINI-LINK TN for PDH / SDH or Ethernet traffic. In this way, an extremely space efficient drop site for microwave spurs is created. No extra indoor space is needed for the short haul equipment. The node will also be visible in the management system as one node with different links.

Ericsson has over 40 years of microwave experience with more than 2 million radio units delivered to over 160 countries. MINI-LINK is produced in the world’s largest microwave production facility and has a market leading reliability. Ericsson is the market leader in microwave transmission.

System Data Ethernet Switching Integrated non-blocking Gigabit Ethernet switch (IEEE 802.1D, 802.1Q compliant). Switching capacity up to 24 Gbps full duplex. QoS with 8 priority queues using SPQ and WFQ. RSTP/MSTP functionality. Policing according to MEF. LAG (IEEE 802.1AX). WRED. Link OAM ( IEEE 802.3ah). LLF (Link Loss Forwarding) for error detection. Jumbo frames. Network Synchronization The Network Synchronization provides selection of clock source for the node and SSM propagation on outgoing interfaces or squelch when network synchronization is enabled. Sync output via TDM traffic or a dedicated 2 MHz sync port. Radio Link Native Ethernet is supported over the microwave radio link. The maximum air interface rate over one radio is up 405 Mbps (56 MHz channel @ 512 QAM) corresponding to a line interface rate of up to 500 Mbps depending on compression and frame size. Using XPIC will double the capacity. With Radio Link Bonding 1 Gbps line interface capacity can be achieved. Adaptive modulation The Radio Link supports hitless adaptive modulation for 4-512 QAM over 7-56* MHz channels. MINI-LINK Adaptive modulation is designed for Carrier Grade networks; it is bit error free, it has a constant delay which is crucial for network sync and it handles complex selective/multipath fading as well as rain fading in frequencies where this is a concern.
