Engaged Proud Successful Students - Zone Athletics Carnival Congratulations to all our students who competed at the Zone Athletics Carnival. A number of students have advanced to regional finals. Congratulations to these students. Names of competitors will be released to the community once we have received official confirmation of participation. School Administrative and Support Staff Recognition Week This week we celebrate our outstanding team of School Administrative and Support Staff and their amazing contribution to the school. The school is incredibly grateful to the SAS staff who go above and beyond in the areas of administration, student health, library organisation, class and student support and grounds and building maintenance. If you see one of the SAS staff team members please wish them a wonderful week and congratulate them on their great contribution to Ermington Public School. Defibrillator Training – Tuesday 10th September A defibrillator will be installed at our school before the end of term. I would like to thank our P&C and OOSH Committee for the coordination of the defibrillator. Ermington PS Staff will be attending a training session on Tuesday, September 10th from 3:10pm – 4:30pm and we would like to invite any interested parents to attend this session. This is a wonderful opportunity to develop awareness about cardiac arrest, what is effective CPR, the use and maintenance of the defibrillator, real life examples of the cardiac chain of survival and response to cardiac arrest. Please RSVP to [email protected] or return the RSVP section of the note that was sent out today. This training is for adults and unfortunately, there will be no child minding available during this session. Wellbeing The NSW Government has released a new range of resources entitled Powerful Conversations. The Powerful Conversations resources create opportunities for teachers, students, and families to have conversations to help prevent and address bullying. There are a number of key themes that can be explored including prevention, action, resilience and staying safe online. The school will be familiarising themselves with the news resource and families are encouraged to use the resource to have conversations with their children. The resource can be found at antibullying.nsw.gov.au. High School Transition for 2020 Many high schools will be providing advice regarding transition programs to high school. The state wide transition event for Year 7 2020 students will be held on Tuesday 3rd December 2019. For information regarding Marsden High School’s Transition Program, please view the information below. Happy Father’s Day Happy Father’s Day to all the father’s, grandfather’s and significant others. Thank you to our P&C who are coordinating the Father’s Day stall and breakfast this week.

Ethics Scripture Do you have half an hour per week? Ethics classes are available in NSW public primary schools as an option for children who do not attend Special Religious Education (SRE) / Scripture. The NSW government has authorized the charity, Primary Ethics, to create curriculum and deliver these classes. Curriculum is available for children from Years K-6. The Ethics team are currently delivering Ethics scripture to Years 1-6. They are looking for more volunteers to support their teaching of this curriculum. The more volunteers they have, the more classes they can offer. If you would like to volunteer half an hour a week please consider participating in this program. There is a process for volunteers to participate in, including interview, training and commitment each week. For more information, please contact the Ethics Coordinator, Meg Wrixon at [email protected] Mandy Ennion Ermington Public School Aerobics Congratulations to Samara, Sara, Eileen, Flora, Sienna, Tayla and Annika who were true stars at the National Aerobics Championships on the Gold Coast. The girls lit the stage with their amazing skills, enthusiasm and poise. Mrs Stevens and Mrs MacKenzie were so proud of not only the way you performed but also your impeccable behaviour. Thank you to all families involved, it will certainly be a memory that will not be forgotten.

Kindergarten KM are performing a dance at this week’s K-2 Assembly at 11.25am in the school hall this Friday. KS will be presenting the assembly. We look forward to seeing some great dancing and hearing super voices on the microphone! Kindergarten have been writing informative texts on many under the sea animals. Ask them some questions about crabs, seahorses, sharks and fish. They can discuss their habitats, foods they eat and even their appearance. They will blow you away with their knowledge! If there are any Kindergarten parents that are able to assist in the uniform shop (no experience required) on the following dates; Wednesday, 16th October, Tuesday, 22nd October or Friday 1st November from 9:00am – 11:00am for 2020 Kindergarten Orientation Days, please let Mrs MacKenzie know ASAP. Thank you to those that have volunteered, it is much appreciated. Stage 1 Welcome to Week 6! Stage 1 teachers cannot wait to listen to the speaking and listening tasks on Australian animals next week. A friendly reminder that speeches will be due by Monday 2nd of September. A closer look at the week:

This week Year 1 and 2 will be focusing on the following:

Year 1 Spelling and Grammar- ‘ew’ as in 'jewel' sound and final blends

Year 2 Spelling and Grammar- ‘or' sound and expanding the sentence

Handwriting - forming the letter 'y' and the number '11'

Year 1 Mathematics - Using effective strategies to solve addition and subtraction problems

Year 2 Mathematics - Using the inverse strategies to solve addition and subtraction problems Stage 2 This week students have been avidly exploring Dreamtime stories and starting to predict and write their own endings. In groups we have thought of many adjectives and synonyms to enhance our writing. In science we have successfully predicted and conducted our experiments on solar energy using black, white and silver cans to absorb water over a period of time. The students have been learning to use and read thermometers accurately and record their findings in degrees Celsius. This would be a great chance to discuss with your child the outcome of the experiment. In maths, Year 3 have been finishing some fantastic fractions lessons. Other classes have enjoyed completing chance experiments which have included constructing chance spinners to predict an outcome and rate certain events from impossible though to certain. Congratulations to those students who have been enthusiastically participating in the challenging Maths Olympiad! We have started some new artworks this week - what a creative group of students we have in Stage 2!
