Dr Pierre-Majorique Léger is a full professor in information technologies at HEC Montréal, director of the ERPsim Lab (erpsim.hec.ca) and co-director of Tech3Lab (tech3lab.hec.ca).

He holds a Ph.D. in industrial engineering from École Polytechnique de Montréal and has done post-doctoral studies in information technologies at HEC Montréal and NYU Stern. He is also Invited professor at Henry B.Tippie College of Business (University of Iowa) and Tuck School of Business (Dartmouth University).

He is a principal inventor of ERPsim, a simulation game to teach ERP concepts, which is now used in more than 150 universities worldwide and many Fortune 1000 organisations such as SAP, ABB, Conoco Philips and Deloitte.

Derick LyleDerick currently holds the position of ERPsim Lab Research and Development Director. He is responsible for the project portfolio and strategic objectives of the ERPsim Lab on a global scale.

Derick has been involved with the ERPsim Lab since 2008, when he held the position of Assistant Director. He later took the position of CTO at Ba-ton Simulations, and returned to the Lab this May. He brings more than 20 years of experience leading projects with diverse roles in America, Can-ada and Australia as well as in the training and education, serious gaming, agriculture, commodity and foreign exchange trading, pharmaceuticals, and technology services sectors.

He holds a MBA from HEC Montréal and a Bachelor’s in Economics from the University of Sydney, Australia.

5. Discussion and conclusionsIn this paper, we presented an innovative pedagogical approach (ERPSim) using PBL to teach operations management in the context of integrated information systems that is authentic, ill-structured, student-centered, and facilitator-driven. The realism of the ERPSim approach brings technology, operations man-agement, and strategy together in one forum for learning.
