The launch of the VERSAPRINT print-ing machines was a world premiere that re-defined SMT production. The revolutionary Line Scan Technology (LIST) camera (patent pending) and the TRT (Triple Rail Transport) repre-sents the core competence of this printer: true time savings via opti-mized parallel processing, 100 % post print AOI integrated into the machine, as well as the maximum in machine capability for the minimum floor space requirement.

Most of today’s printers use a stan-dard camera and prisms for align-ment and the same camera to rap-

idly shoot many small field-of-view pictures for inspection. Ersa revolu-tionizes these processes via the use of a line sensor based camera for both alignment and inspection. Simi-lar to a standard scanner, the LIST camera (patent pending) has top and bottom contact image sensors (CIS) and an array of rod lenses specifi-cally designed for this application.

Standard cameras take many pic-tures of a very small area, whereby the LIST camera scans the entire length of 260 mm at a speed of 35 mm per second! From an inspection speed standpoint,

Ersa’s Line Scan Technology has set new standards. The LIST camera in the VERSAPRINT achieves the world’s fastest inspection speed of 9,100 mm2/s! In addition to inspec-tion speed, the scanning of the en-tire substrate offers many additional advantages.

Advanced Wave Solderingwith Air & N2 tunnel machines

Ersa‘s full N2 tunnel wave solder ma-chine, the POWERFLOW N2 was spe-cifically designed to meet the chal-lenges of lead free!

The machine highlights a 16“ board width, plug and play preheat design (Medium IR, Convection, Short IR and top-side Convection) and 1.8 meters of preheat standard. Additional pre-heating of up to 3.0 meters can be added if needed. A new nozzle con-figuration brings the chip wave closer (40 mm) to the laminar wave for re-duced solder defects. This machine has a pin & chain transport through-out the fluxer and pre-heater and

feeds into a finger conveyor in the wave section of the machine. A car-rier machine is also available.

A bar code scanner on the new fluxer allows to selectively flux and pro-gram in “keep out areas” for board cut outs, where the fluxer will not spray a specific area of the board. The POWERFLOW N2 machine has a process gas cleaning system (similar to Reflow machines) which also regu-lates the Auto Tunnel Temperature Compensation. The machine has a low profile design of 1.57 m and is ideal for demanding customers who require a 16“ tunnel wave.

Ersa’s proven Multiple True Closed Loop Selective Rework technology uses the actual temperature of the component and/or PCB to drive the DynamicIR heating system. The non-contact IntelligentIRS infrared sensor offers a comfortable, in-process tem-perature measurement of the compo-nent to be heated and guarantees that it exactly follows the prescribed profile path. The power to the medium wavelength IR heaters is controlled based on the precise temperature gradient of the component required at each specific time point in the profile. Up to four additional AccuTC K-type thermocouples can monitor tempera-tures at four additional locations in order to prevent the system from un-desired overheating of temperature sensitive components.

This NEW heating technology makes an ultra-fast heat-up and heat recov-ery possible for the i-Tool soldering iron. From room temperature to 350 °C in about 9 seconds and from stand-by (280°C) to 350°C in about 3 seconds.You can choose out of 3 power level settings that control the heating ele-ment depending on the heat demand. The highest level gives you the maxi-mum power of 150 W, where the lowest level strictly controls the performance and makes an “overshoot” impossible. The heating element and the solder tips are separated from each other.

The X-Tool is an extremely high pow-ered desoldering iron which has been specifically designed for the tough-est through-hole desoldering appli-cations on the heaviest of PCBs. Safe lead-free desoldering is much more challenging due to the higher process temperatures and will re-quire a desoldering tool which can function effectively at the lowest possible temperature.

The i-Tool recovers so fast that all solder joints can be made with nearly

the same temperature. The sensor mea-sures the actual tip temperature very

close to the tip extremity. The Process Window Alarm assists the operators in

guaranteeing repeatable quality.

We at Ersa are proud to offer our extensive technical assistance. Our expertise does not only encompass process related is-sues, but also those related to the eco-nomical aspects of Total Cost of Owner-ship can be discussed. When it comes to determining the optimal process parame-ters for their own assemblies, our cus-tomers will receive competent assistance from our application specialists stationed in our fully equipped application centres in Europe, North America and China. To establish a good thermal profile or to im-prove on one of their own generated pro-files, boards can also be sent to these centres. And finally, if called for, process support by our specialists at the custom-er’s facility is also available.

The Ersa Know-How Series of seminars, established now for many years, has been attended by more than 5500 satis-

fied participants, and has made for it-self a good reputation in the industry as a means to improve the qualification of ones employees. Phone support, remote maintenance and service advice are in-tegral components of our Total Service Philosophy.

Ersa is also a certified training centre of the DVS, and educates and trains, fol-lowing unified standards, manual sol-dering operators. During the five day seminar series, extensive theoretical knowledge and useful practical skills are conveyed, which, upon the return of the trainee to his workplace, cut cost and reduce the rate of failure during solder-ing, desoldering or rework.

Service packages, tailored to a custom-er’s specific need, are also available from Ersa, as is TCO (Total Cost of Own-ership) consultation. Finally, and as a matter of course, in case of problems, our worldwide 24 hour spare parts- and service organization is at the custom-er’s disposition.

Our first production plant – a forge hammer mill, which started to pro-duce in 1779 – was operated with wa-ter power. This historical industrial landmark is maintained as a visual symbol of a sustainable corporate development.
