Settle into the bolstered, 10-way power driver’s seat, grab hold of the LFA-inspired steering wheel, place your feet upon the pedals and you’ll immediately sense that all three aspects were designed in tandem to achieve optimal driver engagement and comfort. And, to ensure that every driver can fully enjoy all this engineering, available memory recalls up to three personalized driving positions (including seat, steering wheel and outer mirror positions) at the touch of a button.

The interior of the ES proves the best automotive design doesn’t come from studying automobiles, but rather drivers. The shape of the available Remote Touch8 device is based on the curves of the human palm. Its motion mimics a computer mouse. A new steering wheel was crafted specifically to fit perfectly in your hands regardless of their placement. And, to help keep your focus on the road ahead, the center display is purposely positioned closer to the driver’s natural line of sight.

Customize the performance of the ES with Drive Mode Select. In ECO mode, a calming blue light surrounds the gauge cluster while climate and throttle settings are optimized for increased fuel efficiency. Normal mode offers the optimal balance of comfort and performance. Sport mode changes the gauge cluster lighting to a fiery red, replaces the ES 300h Hybrid System Indicator with a tachometer, enhances the steering feel and increases the throttle response for more dynamic acceleration.

Whether you’re in the mood to relax in world-class comfort or eager to impose your will on an unsuspecting stretch of winding road, the level of engagement you crave can vary. Now, with a turn of the innovative Drive Mode Select switch, so does the ES. BLIND SPOT MONITOR WITH REAR CROSS-TRAFFIC ALERT

Accidents can happen anywhere, from parking lots to major highways. Fortunately, the ES offers two new ways designed to help you avoid both. For the first time on a Lexus, the available Blind Spot Monitor13 features an ingenious Rear Cross-Traffic Alert system that can help detect and warn you of vehicles approaching from behind on either side as you back out of a parking space. And, at speeds above 10 mph, the Blind Spot Monitor can help you change lanes more safely by warning you if it detects vehicles in the adjacent lanes.

PRE-COLLISION SYSTEM

The ES features a class-leading standard 10-airbag system16 and new Whiplash Injury Lessening (WIL) front seats20 designed to help decrease the severity of whiplash-type injuries in certain rear collisions.

To help you prepare for and, if possible, avoid potential collisions, an available Pre-Collision System18 with Dynamic Radar Cruise Control19 is designed to monitor the road ahead for obstacles and warn you of their presence with beeps and visible indications. It can even begin braking automatically before impact.

Of all the areas worthy of focus on the all-new ES, among the most important is its focus on helping to keep you safe. In addition to offering an ingenious system designed to help warn you of adjacent vehicles when changing lanes,13 available Lane Departure Alert14 helps detect visible lane markings, and if you veer, it can warn you with audible and visual cues. Available intelligent high-beam headlamps15 automatically switch to low-beam when they sense headlamps or taillamps ahead. And in the event that your vehicle’s airbags16 deploy, or you’re involved in a serious rear-end collision, available Safety Connect®3,17 can even contact a response center agent who can notify local emergency services and direct them to your vehicle’s location.

Tire life may substantially be less than 15,000 miles, depending upon driving conditions. 13. Do not rely exclusively on the Blind Spot Monitor to determine if a lane change is safe. Always look over your shoulder and use your turn signal before changing lanes. There are several limitations to the function, detection, range and clarity of the monitor. For a complete list of limitations and directions regarding the use of the monitor, please see your Owner’s Manual. 14. Lane Departure Alert is designed to read the lane markers under certain conditions and provide visual and audible alerts when lane departure is detected. It is not a collision-avoidance system or a substitute for safe and attentive driving. Effectiveness depends on many factors. See Owner’s Manual for more information. 15. The intelligent high-beam headlamps can help improve vision at night. However, conditions such as a dirty windshield, rapidly changing light conditions or hilly terrain will limit effectiveness so the driver may need to manually change the high beams from on to off. Please see your Owner’s Manual for details. 16. All the airbag (AB) systems are Supplemental Restraint Systems. All ABs (if installed) are designed to inflate only under certain conditions and in certain types of severe collisions: frontal and knee ABs typically inflate in frontal collisions; side and side curtain ABs in side collisions; Roll-Sensing Curtain ABs at a severe tilt degree, roll or lateral G-force. In all other accidents, the ABs will not inflate. To decrease the risk of injury from an inflating AB, always wear seatbelts, sit upright in the middle of the seat as far back as possible and do not lean against the door. Do not put objects in front of an AB or around the seatback. Do not use a rearward-facing child seat in any front passenger seat. The force of an inflating AB may cause serious injury or death. Contact with the Safety Connect response center is dependent upon the telematics device being in operative condition, cellular connection availability, navigation map data and GPS satellite signal reception, which can limit the ability to reach the response center or receive emergency support. To avoid potential interference with pedal operation, do not install a floor mat on top of an existing floor mat, and each mat must be secured with a quarter-turn fastener. This floor mat was designed specifically for use in this model and model year vehicle and SHOULD NOT be used in any other vehicle. 25. Lexus Genuine Accessory Warranty will only apply when the installation is performed by a trained Lexus-approved installer. If the film is installed by anyone else, the Lexus “Parts Only” warranty–12 months–will be applicable instead. 26. The engine immobilizer is a state-of-the-art anti-theft system. When you insert your key into the ignition switch or bring a SmartAccess fob into the vehicle, the key transmits an electronic code to the vehicle. The engine will only start if the code in the transponder chip inside the key or SmartAccess fob matches the code in the vehicle’s immobilizer. Because the transponder chip is embedded in the key or SmartAccess fob, it can be costly to replace. If you lose a key or SmartAccess fob, your Lexus dealer can help. Alternatively, you can find a qualified independent locksmith to perform high-security key services by consulting your local Yellow Pages or by contacting www.aloa.org. 27. The SmartAccess system may interfere with some pacemakers or cardiac defibrillators.
