    Mathemacs at ISM

This week we have had the pleasure of hosng Steve Leinwand,

Mathemacs consultant from the American Instutes Research.

Steve has spent me working with our Grade level teams in a co

planning, coteaching and debriefing model. Teams have

targeted a parcular learning standard and then coplanned the

lesson for a class that has then been cotaught by an ISM teacher

with Steve, while being observed by their colleagues. The level

of professional discourse focused on deconstrucng instruconalpracce and how best to maximize your children's learning in

Mathemacs has been outstanding and has set us up for great

ongoing discussion. As a school we have a philosophical

commitment to providing me for teachers to collaborate, with

the purpose of sharing pedagogy, resources and instruconal

pracces. This week has only sought to reaffirm this belief and

strengthened our commitment moving forward. Steve will

connue this work over the weekend, where he will be working

with our faculty in a two day workshop focused on Mathemacs

    instrucon.

Connuing this discourse within our community, we will be

holding a Mathemacs morning on Wednesday 28th

January. The morning will start with an introducon in the Lile

Theater, followed by an open invitaon to come into our

Elementary classrooms and see Mathemacs in acon. This will

be a chance to engage in Mathemacs with your child. The

    morning will look as follows:

    8 15 8 45 Introducon in the Lile Theater

    8 45 9 15 Preschool / Kindergarten / Grade 1 Classroom Visits

    8 45 9 45 Grade 2, 3 and 4 Classroom Visits

We look forward to welcoming you later this month.
