Online Materials

The following databases are available to Baxter County Library patrons. A PIN number must be created with a librarian in order to access the databases.

Learning Express includes a section with Spanish instructions for online courses in reading comprehension along with the other practice tests. It includes preparation for the TOEFL iBT (Test of English as a Foreign Language) and the Citizenship exam. Note: this is the only library database that requires the patron to use all of the numbers on the library card bar code instead of the last six numbers.

EBSCO Databases

The following EBSCO databases are available in Spanish as well as English. Choose the Spanish version by clicking on EBSCOhost Espanol before selecting the database.

MasterFILE Premier indexes more than 1,730 general reference publications with full text articles, including magazines, documents, and reference books.

Newspaper Source provides selected text for 25 national (U.S.) and international newspapers. It includes television & radio transcripts, and more than 260 regional U.S. newspapers.

ERIC (the Educational Resource Information Center) contains more than 2,200 digests along with references for additional information and citations from over 1,000 education-related journals.

Health Source: Nursing / Academic Edition provides information from many medical disciplines and journals.

Clinical Pharmacy contains information on prescription drugs, herbal and nutritional supplements, and over-the-counter products.

Academic Search Elite offers full text on more than 2,000 journals and covers virtually every area of academic study.

Regional Business News incorporates coverage of 75 U.S. business journals and newspapers. It is updated daily.

Databases for Students

Middle Search Plus is a resource for middle and junior high school research. It provides full text for 140 popular magazines, and includes biographies and images.

Funk & Wagnalls New World Encyclopedia covers over 25,000 encyclopedic entries.

Primary Search provides full text for nearly 70 popular magazines for elementary school research.

EBSCO Animals covers the nature and habitat of familiar animals for younger students.

MAS Ultra – School Edition is designed for high school libraries and contains information from nearly 500 popular, high school magazines. It includes photos, maps, and flags.
