What is ESRI ArcGIS Desktop?
ArcGIS for Desktop is a powerful platform to create, query, analyze, edit, import, publish and share geographic information.
ArcMap is the desktop application for all map-based tasks including cartography, map analysis, and editing
ArcCatalog is used for locating, browsing, and managing spatial data and allows users to quickly view geographic data in various formats
ArcToolbox contains many GIS tools used for geoprocessing. Each tool has a dialog-driven interface, with wizards where appropriate, to facilitate data conversion and management
