the #ast$ %istory shows &s that thro&'ho&t time( women we not treated e)&al to
men* Women &sed to !e +iewed as a lesser to man in e+ery as#ect of life* This
+iew carried o+er into the work #lace* There are certain o!s that #eo#le consider
to !e a ,man’s o!- and that women ha+e no !&siness 'ettin' in+ol+ed in these
careers* .or e"am#le( /n'ineerin' is a male dominant career felid* When #ickin'

with my fa+orite teacher( soccer coach and 'ood friend llie Ur!anski and asked
for her ad+ice* She asked me a few sim#le )&estions like( ,what is yo&r fa+orite

time-* fter answerin' all of these what seemed like childish )&estions she told
me that she tho&'ht !y !est fit wo&ld !e en'ineerin'*
had ne+er considered en'ineerin' !efore and )&ite frankly had no idea
what it was* knew that en'ineers !&ilt st&ff !&t not m&ch other than that* fter a
lot of research and some ,so&l searchin'- decided that en'ineerin' was the way
wanted to 'o* ettin' into the en'ineerin' #ro'ram was a !ree3e and that’s

my ori'inal tho&'hts for a #roect was women in a 'ender dominant career* was
'oin' to &st do en'ineerin' &ntil the class o#ened my eyes to a more wide
!ased idea* fter talkin' to a few of my classmates was set on the idea of
ine)&ality in the work#lace and how it has chan'ed o+er the years* ccordin' to
%ar+ard S&mmer School( women only make a!o&t 55 cent to e+ery dollar a man
earned* This has !ecome known as the wa'e 'a#* 6y 'enre #rod&ct shows a
+ideo from 7ohn 8li+er’s 9ast Week Toni'ht 'i+in' his f&nny o&t#&t on the
s&!ect* 6y #rod&ct also 'oes on to try and #lace a reason !ehind the wa'e 'a#*
ll of the data in my 'enre #rod&ct came from 4ew Research Center*
So as we all know men and women do ha+e different stren'ths* 6en tend
to !e more #hysical while women ha+e a more emotional side* B&t do these
tendencies carry o+er into the work #lace* The Catalyst we!site wrote an article
dis#layin' the stats of women and male dominated occ&#ations in the U*S* 7o!s
that are considered to !e male dominant are more #hysical o!s* The to# fi+e
male dominated occ&#ations in the U*S* are !rick masons( cement masons(
electrical #ower line installers( floor installers and heatin': air conditionin'
installers* These are all are la!or;intensi+e o!s* They re)&ire #hysical hands on
la!or* The to# ten women o!s tend to !e more inside desk o!* They are
secretaries( dental hy'ienists( early childhood ed&cators( co&rt recorders and
dietitians* These o!s are o!s that do not re)&ire many #hysical a!ilities*

hi'h #laces and they are not afraid to ask for what they want* This may hel# them
'et more #romotions o+er women or e+en allow them to 'et hi'her #ay rates* 8n
the other half women are #ers&asi+e and they like a challen'e* These traits
