• Turkey became a part of United Nations Climate Change Framework Convention (UNFCCC) at May 24, 2004 and the Kyoto Protocol (KP) at August 26, 2009.

• Regulation on Monitoring of Greenhouse Gases was published at April 25th, 2012.

• Support Project for Monitoring Greenhouse Gas Emissions in Turkey, IPA-1, is located under the 2011 programming.

• With IPA-1, Capacity Development Project at Turkey in the Field of Climate Changes, located under the 2013 programming, it is aimed to develop the capacity necessary for the harmonisation of EU legislation.

Turkey Republic of Environment and the Ministry of Urbanism intend to prepare a new national F-gas regulation, partly based on the EU approach. This regulation will be complementary to existing national regulation 2008 Ozone Depleting Substances. The process about the harmonization of the regulation is planned to be completed within the beginning of next year. The regulation will be implemented at 2020.

Turkey Republic of Environment and the Ministry of Urbanism, has established the committe for implementation of Regulation (EC) No 1005/2009 and to transfer the Regulation (EC) No 842/2006 (with the complementary legislation). Committee organizes periodic meetings to enhance the coordination and to bring together of all relevant stakeholders (government agencies, industry associations).

There exist 51 Organized Industrial Zones, one Duty-Free-Zone allocated to manufacturing, one Zone for Technological Innovation, and 16 universities, all of which provide the best possible conditions for technology and production.

Many multinational companies have made their investment preferences in favor of Izmir due to its manifest diversity and its advantageous geographical location, for Izmir is a true center of attraction for all investments that further reinforce its strategic advantages.

ALTERNATIVE ENERGY RESOURCES

Solar EnergyIzmir’s daily total sun time is 7,8 hours

Geothermal EnergyOnly %60 of the potential reserves are in active use in Izmir and the energy used in Central heating is %59, in green house heating is %36 and in thermal tourism %5 of the total. Current electrical production capacity has not been evaluated yet.

ORGANISED INDUSTRIAL ZONES

In these zones, land lots with fully completed infrastructure, such energy supplies, natural gas supplies, solid waste elimination facilities and water purification system are sold to investors with moderate pricing and medium term installment payments. Zone administration also offers telecommunication solutions, health service solutions, fire prevention and fire department solutions and many similar services.
