6July 2017

2017 is now in full swing here at Lake Shore. The Men’s Invitational had a great turn-out and even a better ending. A huge congratulations to the team of Jim Sitter and Brian Rizzo for outlasting Mike Divito and Tom Lulich in a memorable shootout.

We have had some feedback regarding a few issues that members have reported on the golf course.

• Proper golf attire does apply on the driving range. No Jeans!

• Please try and keep push carts away from the greens.

• As always, please repair all ball marks and replace any divots if possible.

• Please call the proshop if you see these rules of the game being broken.

• Sand trap rakes should be placed in the traps away from the edges of the bunker.

• Use caution when going over the bridge on #18, please take wide turns in an effort not to damage our carts.

with Paul Schell, Director of Golf

Hello Members,One of my questions I ask in every interview is “what is your favorite golf course?” This question has special meaning to me because my mentor Scott Adams asked me that same question in my interview at Old South Golf Links in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. My answer at the time was Firestone CC because it was the most famous course I’d ever played up to that time. He asked why? I didn’t really know why, I just said it because obviously he would be familiar with the club because it’s a regular stop on the PGA tour. He said,”How was the experience?” At 24-years-old, I didn’t know or really remember much about that day other than I played the course in a college event while at Edinboro University. The point he was trying to make was all people play golf but what we want are people to experience golf. The bag drop, professional staff, the course, course conditions, beverage cart, and all parts that make it a day to remember. We all know that Lake Shore is our favorite course. I’d like to hear from members what other course in the world may be your favorite and why. Please email me at [email protected]. We hope to get an idea of what things you look for when playing golf, and ideas we may be able to incorporate here at our club. We even hope to publish some of your responses on our social media outlets.Thank you, Paul Schell

Hole Perspective with Paul Schell, Director of Golf

Dear Members- With warmer temperatures and longer days, the season for golf has FINALLY arrived. Many of you are turning your attention to the condition of your clubs, shoes, and golf wardrobe...which is why I feel obligated to write you this letter. We have all heard slogans like; "keep business in Erie", "support small business owners" and "shop local". Many of you actually own local businesses, and understand the value of Erie clients. In my newest role here at LSCC, I would like to remind you that the Pro Shop is a small business within the Lake Shore community and is dependent on your dollars to keep it going. To serve you better and reward your loyalty; the Head Professional is now offering exclusive members-only pricing. And, costs are comparable to local retailers -- the days of Pro Shop merchandise being outrageously priced are over. You can buy quality golf items at affordable prices. These are just a few benefits of buying your items at LSCC. Additionally, you get knowledge, expertise and excellent customer service. Whatever your golf needs, we can provide a solution. Thank you in advance for making this the most profitable year ever for our Pro Shop. Like the PGA always says, "support you local golf professionals". So, why not start the season with a purchase that benefits you and the club?

On the Courts with Andy Findlay

SEVEN CORE VALUESWhether you are a junior player starting your tennis career, a dedicated tournament player, a high school/college player, a league player, a country club star, or a top professional, there are seven core values you should have to make sure success applies off the court as well as on it. Today’s successful tennis player must be:CONFIDENT: Players must have an unshakable self-belief in their abilities and skills and expect to be successful. DETERMINED: Players push through hardship and struggle, always continuing to strive for success in a positive, productive manner. ENGAGED: Players should have their full focus directed on what matters in that particular moment and be invested in their own success. PROFESSIONAL: Players demonstrate behavior, character, and attitude of an athlete who is consistently prepared to practice and compete with full engagement. RESILIENT: Players must have the ability to bounce back and refocus after letdowns bringing their best effort to their next point, set, match, tournament, or training session.RESPECTFUL: Players act in a way that demonstrates appreciation for the game, courtesy to their opponents and teammates, and focus on bringing out the best in others – all while demonstrating sportsmanship and honoring the rules of tennis.TOUGH: Players must be able to endure periods of difficulty and adversity in training and competition, both mentally and physically. America’s pros, top juniors, high school, college, and country club players are living out these seven core values each and every day at tennis courts around the country to achieve the ultimate goal of competing like a champion. These values were developed as part of a collaborative effort of USTA Player Development national coaches and Dr. Larry Lauer, mental skills specialist for USTA Player Development.
