Be Prepared, Not Hassled!Dear People and Friends of San Juan Bautista,

Each of us has a choice in themonth of December—to allowMacy’s, Wal-Mart, Boscov’s andpopular culture to set the tone andagenda for us, or to choose tofollow the wisdom of the Churchand the promptings of the HolySpirit.

The wondrous season ofAdvent is much more than thenecessary time to wait forChristmas Eve to arrive. TheChurch challenges us to watch,

wait and prepare ourselves. But instead many people endup simply doing things. They run from store to storebuying Christmas presents; scurry about decorating theirhomes inside and out; bake dozens and dozens ofChristmas cookies; and tire themselves out with manyChristmas parties before December 24th.

In contrast, the Church challenges us to be prepared,not hassled. Perhaps, people think they are preparing withall the above mentioned activities; yet many are morehassled than prepared. That is because they are preparingfor the wrong thing. Instead of preparing for a fullerrelationship with the Lord Jesus, they prepare for a seriesof activities, which in fact have little meaning withoutChrist.

Instead, the Church invites us to recapture the attitudeof the earliest Christians, expressed in the beautifulacclamation, Maranatha, which translates, Come, LordJesus! These earliest Christians longed for their RisenLord, above everything else, to return from heaven, soonand very soon. Consequently, they lived and prepared forthe Lord to be a fuller part of their lives. We, too, canprepare for the Lord to be a fuller part of our lives.

In this Year of Mercy, consider:

Attending Mass during the week to be formed by theAdvent Scriptures and fed by Christ’s Body and Blood.

Eating dinner together as a family and use an Adventwreath to mark the progression of days to Christmas withGod’s Word

Planning to go to Confession to experience God’s mercy. Participating in the Aguinaldo / Posada services later in

December.

As weembrace Stewardship more and more, it will be moreevident to us and to others that awaiting our Lord’s returnsoon and very soon is our top priority.

Estemos Preparados, No Preocupados

Estimados Hermanos y Amigos de San Juan Bautista,

Cada uno de nosotros tiene la opción durante el mesde Diciembre-de permitir que Macy’s, Wal-Mart,Boscov's y la cultura popular determinen y decidan pornosotros, o decide seguir la sabiduría de la Iglesia y lainspiración del Espíritu Santo.

La maravillosa temporada de Adviento es el tiemponecesario que tenemos para esperar la llegada de laNavidad. La Iglesia nos invita a estar atentos y preparadospara su venida. Por el contrario, muchas personasterminan simplemente haciendo cosas. Corriendo detienda en tienda comprando regalos de Navidad;decorando agitadamente sus hogares por dentro y porfuera, preparando docenas y docenas de galletas, ycansados con muchas fiestas de Navidad antes del 24 deDiciembre.

A diferencia de la Iglesia, que nos invita a estarpreparados, no molestos o preocupados. Tal vez, la gentepiensa que están preparados con todas las actividadesantes mencionadas; sin embargo, muchos están máspreocupados, que preparados. Eso se debe a que se estánpreparando por la razón equivocada. En vez de estarpreparados para tener una completa relación con el SeñorJesús, se preparan para una serie de actividades, que enrealidad tienen poco significado sin Cristo.

En cambio, la Iglesia nos invita a recobrar la actitudde los primeros Cristianos, expresada en la hermosaaclamación, Maranatha, que traduce, ¡Ven, Señor Jesús!Estos primeros Cristianos anhelaban por encima de todolo demás, que pronto, muy pronto bajara del cielo el SeñorResucitado. Por consiguiente, ellos vivían y se preparabanpara que el Señor formara parte de sus vidas. Nosotros,también, podemos prepararnos para que el Señor sea partede nuestras vidas.

En este Año de la Misericordia, pensemos en:

Asistir a Misa durante la semana para ser preparados porlas Escrituras de Adviento y alimentados por el Cuerpo ySangre de Cristo.

Cenar juntos en familia y usar una corona de Advientopara marcar el progreso de los días de Navidad con laPalabra de Dios

Planear ir a Confesión para experimentar la Misericordiade Dios.

Participar en el Aguinaldo / servicio de Posadas enDiciembre.

El Año Litúrgico 2016 / The Liturgical Year

La oración de la Iglesia como una comunidadde fe se llama Liturgia. La liturgia o la oracióncomunal de católicos ocurre en maneras muyespecíficas y a tiempos muy específicos. LaIglesia ora todos los días, sobre todo en elSacrificio de la Santa Misa, también en lamañana y por la tarde. La Iglesia usa el ritmo dela semana para unirnos juntos cada Domingopara celebrar el día de la Resurrección del Señor.Durante del curso del año, la Iglesia usa variasestaciones litúrgicas para profundizar nuestrocontacto con los misterios de fe.

Las estaciones litúrgicas del año varían enlongitud, en sus temas, y en el color litúrgico.Abajo hay una descripción breve de estasestaciones.

The prayer of the Church as a community of faithis called the liturgy. The liturgy or the communalprayer of Catholics occurs in very specific ways andat very specific times. The Church prays everyday,especially in the holy Sacrifice of the Mass, as well inits Morning and Evening Prayer. The Church usesthe rhythm of the week to gather us together every

Sunday to celebrate the day of the Lord’s resurrection. Over the course of the year, the Church uses differentliturgical seasons to deepen our contact with the mysteries of faith.

The liturgical seasons of the year vary in length, in their themes, and in the liturgical color. Below is a briefdescription of these seasons.

The Middle States team said it will recommendResurrection for re-accreditation. The team reported thatCatholic identity is prominent throughout the building andlearning is taking place in a safe environment. They alsosaid parents told them that being at Resurrection makestheir children better people because they learn manners,politeness and mutual respect for one another.

Un Adviento de Misericordia 2015 “Dios, que ‘habita una luz inaccessible’,

habla a la vez al hombre con el lenguaje

de todo el cosmos: ‘en efecto, desde la

creación del mundo, lo invisible de

Dios, su eterno poder y divinidad, son

conocidos mediante las obras’. Este

conocimiento indirecto e imperfecto,

obra del entendimiento que busca a Dios

por medio de las criaturas a través del

mundo visible, no es aún ‘visión del Pa-

dre’. ‘A Dios nadie lo ha visto’, escribe

San Juan para dar mayor relieve a la

verdad, según la cual ‘precisamente el

Hijo unigénito que está en el seno del

Padre, ése le ha dado a conocer’. Esta

‘revelación’ manifiesta a Dios en el in-

sondable misterio de su ser —uno y

trino— rodeado de ‘luz inaccessible’.

No obstante, mediante esta ‘revelación’

de Cristo conocemos a Dios, sobre todo

en su relación de amor hacia el hombre:

en su ‘filantropía’. Es justamente ahí

donde ‘sus perfecciones invisibles’ se

hacen de modo especial ‘visibles’, in-

comparablemente más visibles que a

través de todas las demás ‘obras reali-

zadas por él’: tales perfecciones se ha-

cen visibles en Cristo y por Cristo, a

través de sus acciones y palabras y, fi-

nalmente, mediante su muerte en la cruz

y su resurrección.

De este modo en Cristo y por Cristo, se

hace también particularmente visible

Dios en su misericordia, esto es, se pone

de relieve el atributo de la divinidad, que

ya el Antiguo Testamento, sirviéndose

de diversos conceptos y términos, de-

finió « misericordia ». Cristo confiere

un significado definitivo a toda la tra-

dición veterotestamentaria de la miseri-

cordia divina. No sólo habla de ella y la

explica usando semejanzas y parábolas,

sino que además, y ante todo, él mismo

la encarna y personifica. El mismo es,

en cierto sentido, la misericordia. A

quien la ve y la encuentra en él, Dios se

hace concretamente « visible » como

Padre « rico en misericordia ».13.”

las 6:00 PM en la Catedral de San

Patricio, Harrisburg.

La Puerta de la Misericordia será

abierta por el Monseñor Ronald W.

Gainer en el Domingo de Gaudete, 13

de diciembre a las 4:00 PM.

El evento comenzó en la Capilla de

San Lorenzo, Harrisburg y procederá

a la Catedral de San Patricio,

Harrisburg para la solemne apertura

de la Puerta de la Misericordia y

vísperas solemnes.

Considere hacer un peregrinaje

especial a la Catedral de San Patricio

durante el Año de Jubileo para pasar a

través de la Puerta Santa. La Puerta

Santa es un símbolo de entrar más

profundamente en nuestra relación

Jesús es la Sabiduría de Dios Altísimo: ¿He permitido que las en-señanzas de Cristo me guien en la vida cotidiana? ¿He estudiado la Palabra de Dios y he escuchado aten-tamente las lecturas bíblicas? ¿He permitido que mi mente, mi actitud, y mi modo de pensar sean renovados por Cristo?

Jesús es Señor: ¿He seguido los Diez Mandamientos fielmente? ¿Amo a Dios sobre todas las cosas? ¿He puesto otros dioses delande de mi ver-dadero Dios y Señor?

An Advent of Mercy 2015 “Although God ‘dwells in unapproach-

able light,’ He speaks to man by means

of the whole of the universe: ‘ever since

the creation of the world his invisible

nature, namely, his eternal power and

deity, has been clearly perceived in the

things that have been made.’ This indi-

rect and imperfect knowledge, achieved

by the intellect seeking God by means of

creatures through the visible world, falls

short of ‘vision of the Father.’ ‘No one

has ever seen God,’ writes St. John, in

order to stress the truth that ‘the only

Son, who is in the bosom of the Father,

he has made him known.’ This ‘making

known’ reveals God in the most pro-

found mystery of His being, one and

three, surrounded by ‘unapproachable

light.’ Nevertheless, through this

‘making known’ by Christ we know

God above all in His relationship of love

for man: in His ‘philanthropy.’ It is pre-

cisely here that ‘His invisible nature’

becomes in a special way ‘visible,’ in-

comparably more visible than through

all the other ‘things that have been

made’: it becomes visible in Christ and

through Christ, through His actions and

His words, and finally through His death

on the cross and His resurrection.

In this way, in Christ and through

Christ, God also becomes especially

visible in His mercy; that is to say, there

is emphasized that attribute of the divin-

ity which the Old Testament, using vari-

ous concepts and terms, already defined

as ‘mercy.’ Christ confers on the whole

of the Old Testament tradition about

God's mercy a definitive meaning. Not

only does He speak of it and explain it

by the use of comparisons and parables,

but above all He Himself makes it incar-

nate and personifies it. He Himself, in a

certain sense, is mercy. To the person

who sees it in Him—and finds it in

Him—God becomes ‘visible’ in a par-

ticular way as the Father who is rich in

mercy.”

begins in the Universal Church

on Tuesday, December 8, the

Solemnity of the Immaculate

Conception. All are invited to

join Bishop Ronald W. Gainer

for the Diocesan celebration

marking the start of the Jubilee

at 6:00 PM at Saint Patrick

Cathedral, Harrisburg.

The Holy Door of Mercy will be

opened by Bishop Ronald

Gainer on Gaudete Sunday,

December 13 at 4:00 PM. The

event will begin at Saint

Lawrence Chapel, Harrisburg

and proceed to Saint Patrick

Cathedral, Harrisburg for the

solemn opening of the Door of

Mercy and Solemn Vespers.

Consider making a special

pilgrimage to Saint Patrick

Cathedral throughout this

Jubilee Year to pass through the

Holy Door. The Holy Door is a

symbol of entering more deeply

into our relationship with Jesus

Christ who is the Door to

Eternal Life and the Face of the

Father’s Merciful Love.

Along with the Cathedral,

Bishop Gainer has also

designated these four churches

as sites for the Jubilee

Pilgrimage: Historic Saint

Mary’s, Lancaster; Sacred

Heart Basilica, Conewago;
