Progressive Veneer Techniques for Optimal EstheticsGeorge Priest, DMD

Ceramic veneers are the foundation of the esthetically-oriented practice. They are conservative options for esthetic enhance-ment that can significantly change a patient’s appearance. Materials and techniques have evolved that simplify restorative procedures and maximize esthetic results. Dr. Priest will examine indications, effective tooth preparation, luting techniques, and esthetic tooth arrangements for specific patient types. He will also recommend supplies and materials that have proven to be effective. Techniques for avoiding common problems of prepara-tion are demonstrated, and the close association between tooth preparation and prosthetic excellence are emphasized. Objectives Upon completion of the course, the participant will be able to: • Prepare teeth for veneers conservatively while providing

maximum esthetics; • Fabricate provisional veneers that provide the blueprint for

definitive restorations; • Cement veneers using a sequence for predictable long-term

retention.

8:00 am – 12:00 pmIntegrating Implants with Teeth, Crowns and Veneers for Esthetic Balance

George Priest, DMD Due to tooth loss, failure of conventional prostheses and con-genital absence, implant treatment is now a standard treatment protocol for tooth replacement in the esthetic zone. The chal-lenge for the implant team becomes creating hard and soft tissue balance between implants and adjacent restored and unrestored teeth. Today’s presentation is designed to guide the team to predictable methods of seamlessly integrating implants with the surrounding hard and soft tissues. Specific discussion areas include treatment planning the varied combinations of restora-tions, surgical guides for optimal implant placement and spacing for proportionate restorations, symmetrical soft tissue profiles through soft tissue development procedures, and abutment and restoration materials that facilitate shade and contour matching. Objectives Upon completion of the course, the participant will be able to: • Learn advantages of implants over fixed dental prostheses in

the esthetic zone; • Design conventional and computed navigated surgical

guides for optimal single and multiple implant placement;• Make provisional restorations that balances peri-implant soft

tissue with that of the surrounding teeth; • Create proportionate restorations by calculating ideal tooth

dimensions.

Program Agenda

Oral Ulcerative Disease Dwight R. Weathers, DDS, MSD

Oral ulcerative disease encompasses a wide variety of conditions that have disparate etiologies. These etiolo-gies include infections, bacterial and viral, autoimmune and genetic origins. The commonality is that they all produce blisters/ulcers on the oral mucosa and adjacent head and neck structures. Once a clinical diagnosis of a vesiculo-bullous disease is made, the clinician has com-pressed the possible diagnoses from over 500 diseases to a more manageable, 20 or so diseases. It is then much easier to begin appropriate diagnostic procedures in order to further limit the diagnoses to 1-3 possibilities. The course will aid the practitioner in developing a short differential diagnosis, apply correct tests and provide appropriate treatment or know when and to whom the patient should be referred.

Upon completion of the course, the participant will be able to:• Recognize a vesiculo-bullous and ulcerative disease of

the oral cavity;• Construct a short differential diagnosis of likely pos-

sibilities;• Explain the appropriate test(s) to perform in order to

make a specific diagnosis;• Appropriately treat the disease or refer for further test-

ing and/or treatment by a specialist.

GEORGE PRIEST, DMDFor more than 25 years, Dr. George Priest has maintained a private prosthodontic practice devoted to esthetic, advanced restorative and implant dentistry. In 2008, Dr. Priest relocated his prosthodontic practice from Atlanta, GA to Hilton Head Island, SC (outside Savan-nah, GA). He lectures nationally and abroad on topics including implant dentistry, advanced restorative dentistry and esthetic excellence. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Prosthodontics, a Fellow of the American College of Prosthodontists, a Fellow of the International College of Dentists, and one of Dentistry Today’s Top Clinicians in Con-tinuing Education for the past 8 years. Dr. Priest is a former professor in graduate prosthodontics at Emory University and an innovator and teacher of implant and esthetic dentistry for more than 20 years.

DWIGHT R. WEATHERS, DDS, MSDDr. Weathers is a board certified oral maxillofacial pathologist and academician who took his pre-dental, dental and specialty training at Emory University and then joined the faculty at the Emory University School of Dentistry. He served as a faculty member, Chairman and fi-nally as Dean until the School of Dentistry closed in 1992. He was then transferred to the School of Medicine where he served as Professor of Pathology and Dermatology.
