The program tried to draw on cases to highlight good practices and identify lessons of real

life experience of the journalists on business reporting and media utilization for advocacy.

Meanwhile, after an in-depth discussion on the importance and significance of the Forum,

the two institutions: ECCSA and the Media, also established CMNF.

Speaking on the event, Endalkachew Sime, Secretary General of ECCSA, stated that the

significance of the Forum was to strengthen and ensure the sustainability of the media

intervention in the private sector’s development by creating a common platform between

ECCSA and the media.

According to the Secretary General, the media intervention should be in a way it promotes

the domestic private sector as the domestic private sector, apart from its economic partner

of the society, is one of the key components of the society.

“Therefore,” said Ato Endalkachew, “there is a need for the media to produce a balanced

story where facts would be illustrated as they are, with of course a merciless constructive

criticism”. “In so doing, we would be able to build trust among citizens”, the Secretary

added.

Debebe Abebe, Corporate Communications and Public Relations Director in ECCSA on his

part said that strong and sustainable media intervention is a prerequisite to address the

Chamber System and its mandates stipulated in the establishment proclamation

no.341/2003 to the vast audience across the country and globally.

The media intervention contributes to an informed economic condition and allows the

business community, government bodies and the entire people to form views and make

informed choices in respect of visionary development, the Director added.

The CMNF, said the Director, is, therefore, an important contribution to the development of

the private sector in that it holds a significant potential for its growth and competitiveness

both locally and at international stages.

It was a year ago that the GA had to undertake the electoral procedure of the Board of

Directors in spite of its pending for almost more than a year. In a press release delivered to

journalists a few months ago, the out-going President of ECCSA, Ato Solomon Afework, had

provided an explanation that the root causes of such coincidences were the existence of

injustice and absence of rule of law among some of the member chambers in electoral

procedures.

It was learned that the National Chamber formed a committee and task force that held the

issue and made a report of all the complaints made by the member chambers where the

problem aggravates, and delivered it to the concerned government bodies: Ministry of

Trade (MoT) and Ministry of Industry (MoI).

MoT and MoI, having looked into the cases thoroughly, have made their decisions, based on

the findings that the Chambers under question had been found against the proclamation

and the regulation of the private sector (indorsed in Sept. 2014), that they would resolve

the situation.

The GA, which is represented by 176 seats, has, at the end, finalized peacefully the electoral

procedure that undergone through disputable moments over a year.

Finally, the former Board of Directors: Ato Solomon Afework, President; Ato Abebaw

Mekonnen, Vice President; and the nine board members; honorably delivered the place and

officially out-went while the in-coming ones took over the place taking a solemn oath of

loyalty.
