How might your family life be affected by your gender?

• The connection between ethnicity and gender is that in certain ethnic groups eg. Asian cultures, females may be under more pressure to carry out the domestic role than males.

• Triple shift – emotional work, Housework and Job outside the house.

What opinions do the perspective have on this issue ie. Functionalists, Marxists, Feminists and new right?

• Functionalists believe that everyone is equal and everyone should run an equal life even if your part of a different ethnic group whereas Marxists believe that not everyone has the same opportunities so if you come from a poor background you wont have the same opportunities and someone who has come from a wealthier background. Feminists argue the point that they feel females should have an equal life to a male and shouldn’t be discriminated just for being female, where as on the other hand New Rights are a modern version of Functionalists, they don’t mind diversity aslong as it doesn’t cost them money.

• Being a single parent family or coming from a poor background may influence less opportunities in life.
