LISBONTO THEWORLDETIC, the Lisbon based school has a teaching experience of 24 years, in the areas of the creative and cultural economy. At this moment, the school intends to expand its educational offer through the opening of English-taught degree programmes targeted to students from all geographies. The purpose is to establish an enthusiastic partnership with a British educational institution which is willing to enhance and to endorse the development and certification of courses taught in Lisbon.

The last five years have seen an explosion in the number of English-taught degree programmes in continental Europe, according to the Institute of International Educations.

WHY ETIC? In Portugal, ETIC is recognized as a pioneer educational institution in the fields of the creative industry. The school continues to innovate with study programmes that are constantly updated to meet the demands of the labor market and its ever-changing dynamics.

Since 2012, ETIC offers two year courses HND – Higher National Diploma (Level 5) taught in Portuguese. Our HND programmes are accredited by British Higher Education qualifications awarded by Pearson BTEC (formerly Edexcel). The introduction of HND courses taught in English is another expected objective at ETIC.

ETIC is continuously shaping educational and training solutions capable of interacting with current creative and cultural fields, where conceptual and technological skills are key to develop a dialogic and participatory society that fosters new ways of thinking.

START UPINCUBATOREntrepreneurship education, currently so essential, has its place in the school curric-ulum. ETIC promotes several initiatives in order to stimulate and support students in developing their own projects and content. In most courses, major brands place their briefs turning the student´s project into a real life experience with a valuable professional feedback. In addi-tion, ETIC rewards its students with two Entrepreneurship Scholarships annually.

KNOWLEDGEAND PASSIONETIC teachers are experienced profession-als, aware of the importance of sharing both their knowledge and passion for work. We also rely on a professional and technolog-ical infrastructure that is open and availa-ble to the community of students, faculty, alumni and business partners.

PROJECTORIENTEDOur strong focus on project development defines our educational style; the school also sees itself as a laboratory where ex-perimentation is encouraged and error is welcomed. The student’s work is system-atically reviewed by experts who are in-vited to observe and comment student´s presentations. The best projects are invit-ed to take part in competitions and, in doing so, they gain valuable exposure and improve the portfolio quality of the future professionals.

THEFOUNDER’SVISION

ETIC was conceived by Manuela Carlos in 1991. A school where knowledge and cre-ativity would be embraced, a school fo-cused on students and their future. The pur-suit of innovation and excellence has been defining the essence of the school from the very beginning. As the General Direc-tor of ETIC, Manuela Carlos is often seen in the school’s hallways talking with stu-dents, offering them guidance and advice.

Page 7: ETIC LISBON

WORK-FOCUSEDThe school’s relationship with the labor market is part of its founding vision. Di-alogue with business entities begins be-fore training takes place. Our link with professionals, from various areas of ex-pertise, provides a critical reflection that influences the training plans. Upon leav-ing, the students’ profile must meet the needs of the labor market. This premise is essential and sets the structure and content of the programmes at ETIC. All courses are designed to be work-focused and to provide the skills desired by po-tential employers.

ON-THE-JOBEXPERIENCEAt ETIC, the Observatory for Professional Integration (OIP) is the department that manages the engagement of students in the labor market as well as their place-ment, since 2000, in European programs such as Erasmus+. Through the OIP, all graduate students have the opportunity to apply for an internship. The integration of these students is based on the requests

received from companies, through offers brought to OIP’s attention or direct contacts with partner companies. Additionally, this department promotes professional chal-lenges, job fairs, and manages a job bank.

HIP LOCATIONETIC is located within walking distance from downtown Lisbon, in a former in-dustrial district which became a trendy neighborhood, where multiple cultural events are taking place. Comprised of two restored buildings, that kept their origi-nal industrial architecture, ETIC facilities spread on approximately 5000 sqm. Its friendly atmosphere makes the school environment relaxed and encourages synergy between teachers, students and school staff. The school is open to the ar-tistic and cultural communities and, on a regular basis, is hosting concerts, exhib-its and seminars.

WHY LISBON?We are proud of our local and inter-national reputation as an exceptional place to study and learn. Our students and lecturers are pursuing successful careers around the world. Many for-eigners are also choosing Lisbon to pursue their studies. Studying in the Portuguese capital means having con-tact with first rate degree programmes and embracing the country´s rich cul-ture and charming lifestyle. They also get familiarized with the world’s third most-spoken European language which is a gateway to Africa and Brazil. Rea-sons behind their choice include the cheap cost of living, the friendliness of the locals, the pleasing weather, the trendy cultural offer and, above all, the quality of Portugal’s education system.

VIBRANT CULTURE

History is present at every corner when we walk through Lisbon’s old neighbor-hoods. There is always something hap-pening in Lisbon, from major concerts to film and music festivals. Lisbon has a wide range of cultural facilities, trendy shops and places of leisure with strong links to the city’s great historical heritage. It is a truly creative city with a variety of cultural events and over 75 museums and art galleries.

SAFETYSecurity is one of Lisbon’s strengths, being one of the safest capitals in Europe (Eurostat, 2010 report). Lisbon also ranks among the top 50 cities with respect to person-al security (MERCER – Quality of living worldwide city rankings 2011). Portugal has low indicators for violent crime, be-ing rated as the 13th safest country in the world (Global Peace Index).

Page 13: ETIC LISBON

EXCELLENCEIN EDUCATIONLisbon offers students a qualified network of both public and private educational institutions at all degree levels. Research and Innovation centers promote close collaboration with top educational organ-izations of international standards. Portu-guese schools, such as ETIC, intensively encourage exchange between teachers, students, researchers, entrepreneurs and companies, through various national and international cooperation programs.

CHEAP COST OF LIVINGLisbon is one of the cheapest cities in the European Union (ranking 6th in 2011, among 35 cities surveyed by Cushman & Wakefield). The cost of education is low, compared to other major European capitals. Lisbon offers lovely accommodation and housing in the city center at reasonable cost. Lisbon also boasts numerous internationally acclaimed hostels offering high-quality ac-commodation at reduced prices.

WELCOMING CITYLisbon was considered the 23rd World’s Best City to Live by Monocle Magazine (2011).

The most spoken foreign languag-es are English, French and Spanish. Lis-bon is home to many communities from Brazil, Cape Verde, Angola, Ukraine, India and China. The sunniest capital in Europe offers the opportunity to practice outdoor sports and its privileged Atlantic location allows easy access to endless sandy beaches. ETIC’S NEWCHALLENGEThe city of Lisbon is strategically position-ing itself as a major destination for ed-ucation and training. Local institutional entities are developing a wide range of promotional initiatives which are attract-ing many international students. Simul-taneously, the awareness of the quality of the Portuguese educational offer is increasing overseas – various schools and universities have been recently rated among the best in Europe.

In a near future, ETIC’s main strategy re-quires a response to that market trend. In its educational core - the creative and cultural areas - our school must be posi-tioned as an option for foreign language students. To accomplish this objective, and to achieve the necessary recognition, it is essential to establish a reliable edu-cational offer consisting of programmes taught in English accredited by a renowned British educational institution.

We believe that with your outstanding credentials and reliability, along with ET-IC’s local experience and favorable con-ditions, could be the main driver of this project. Therefore, we would appreciate an opportunity to discuss this subject with you, and to explore the chances of building a fruitful partnership which may bring mutual benefits.

Respectfully,

Manuela CarlosPresident of ETIC Group
