1. Introduction

In September 2015 Etihad Airways launched a new fare structure to provide more choice and greater transparency to guests. Eight new “Fare Choices” are available for travelers, allowing them to tailor their journey to their individual needs. The “Fare Choices” are transparent, clearly visible and differ in baggage allowance, flexibility and included benefits that otherwise need to be purchased separately. Additionally, an adapted baggage structure will allow consumers to experience seamless travels on the Etihad Airways Partner network, while also reducing the price for excess baggage charges on many routes. Etihad Fare Choices, referred to as Next Generation Distribution, is a simple and effective way to develop clear value propositions for specific traveler needs, strengthing the Etihad brand value and driving revenue through our most valued customers. The enhancement with Fare Choices will bring in the opportunity for Etihad Airways to extend the packaging of booking classes and fares into branded products. The introduction of the new Fare Choices allows Etihad Airways to upsell and encourage the agents to offer premium fare families available. It also allows the agents to target any fare family irrespective of whether the fare is the lowest or highest fare. Implementation of Fare Choices enables Etihad Airways to differentiate the existing offers by the name of the fare family, services that are included/chargeable/not offered and also the basic fare conditions.

2. Purpose & Scope

When it comes to booking a flight, not everyone has the same needs. Some guests want to travel light and on a budget, whilst others want to be able to make last-minute travel decisions, carry extra baggage or earn more miles. Our new Fare Choices have been created with travelers in mind, allowing greater choice and explaining clearly the features which are offered for each fare. All bookings ticketed from launch date in September 2015 are split into distinct Fare Choices. Economy Class:

Thanks to the introduction of Fare Choices from Etihad Airways, customers can now see an enhancement towards Etihad and its brand value across the trade.

Some key features:

1) Easy to understand Ticket types for the Agents selling Etihad

2) Pop up window fully displaying all the services and fare conditions

3) Ability to Upsell offering available premium fare families, hence increasing the revenue per

booking

4) Ability for an agent to target any fare family

3. Etihad Airways Fare Choices

3.1) How do Etihad Fare Choices work?

After the agent has booked the itinerary and is pricing for the selected segments, the applicable fare family name for the selected itinerary will be displayed along with the most important fare details. In addition, a pop up window will fully display all the services and fare conditions. The Upsell module has been designed to automatically highlight and encourage agents to offer premium fare families that are available. The new pricing by Fare Choices transaction allows agents to target any fare family, regardless how low or high the fare is.

3.2) Why Fare Choices?

Fare Choices are a simple and effective way for EY to develop clear value propositions for specific traveler needs. With full transparency of what is included within a specific fare, EY can strengthen brand loyalty and drive revenues with our most valued travelers.

3.3) Upsell Module

The upsell module automatically recommends higher fares, giving EY the best possible opportunity to drive revenues.

3.4) How does Upsell Module work?

The upsell teaser is shown at the time of pricing. It clearly shows the price difference between the existing and proposed fare. For cryptic agents a subsequent transaction is required to show up to 6 recommendations.

5.2) Availability Travelport Rich Content and Branding will see a commendable upgrade from existing black & grey screen to a much more attractive display with rich imagery, attributes, sales messages, which in turn will boost the sales opportunities across the trade and help decisions making process easier during crucial times of sale

By selecting the desired Fare Family, upsell is done. In the example below Business Saver (W Class) on the return leg SIN-AUH is the Upsell & added to the earlier quoted fare, and the total fare displayed on the left side. Once the Fare Quote button is clicked the updated fare is displayed as shown.
