To quickly zoom to a location type in the Fly To box.

Unclick search boxes to hide labels.

Click Search panel to hide from view

Time to focus on only the Layers you want to show.

Uncheck all sub categories in the primary database except Roads.

Compass to change angle of view.

Zoom in or out. Use slider bar.

You can use the mouse to start (double-click) or stop (single-click) a zoom.

How to Create a Placemark

We have zoomed into Plumbrook Elementary. Click the yellow pushpin to create a placemark.

Name the placemark. Click the pushpin to select an icon.

Select the appropriate icon. Click OK.

Click the Label Color box.

Select a color for the Name. Click OK

Change the Label Scale to

2.0

Organization & Snapshot Views

Mouse over the icon and

select Save to My Places.

The label will be saved in the Places area on the left of the screen.

Right click in the places area to add folders. Choose AddFolder.

Name the folder. Click OK.

Folders and sub-folders can be created and locations may be dragged and dropped into

the appropriate folder.

To set a certain view with a saved place, right-click the place and choose Snapshot view

Using the Add Polygon Tool to display School Attendance Boundaries

We will be recreating this elementary school boundary.

Click the Add Polygon tool to begin drawing a boundary.

With the New Polygon window open, begin left-clicking multiple boundary points on the

map, adjustments can be made later.

Name the boundary. In the Style, Color tab, change opacity of the boundary line if desired. Change the Area opacity to 50%.

Click the Area Color box to change color.

Select a color. Click OK

Click OK when finished creating boundary with polygon feature.

Polygon will appear in Places and can be toggled on or off.

To adjust a boundary, right click on the polygon name and select Properties.

Zoom in to fine tune boundaries for accuracy by clicking and dragging any red dot.

How to set up and record a tour

Select the beginning location.

Click the push pin to add a new placemark.

Change Opacity to 0% from the Style, Color tab for both Label and Icon. This will create an invisible

placemark to begin a tour from.

After clicking OK the invisible placemark name will appear in your Places.

Double-clicking a location in your Places will take you to the snapshot associated with that Place. To Record a tour click the movie camera icon.

Click the Red button to begin recording. Double-clicking the

Plumbrook 1 polygon will cause a

zoom into that location. When

finished stop the recording by clicking

the red button.

Click play to preview the recorded tour. Click the disk icon to save it in your Places.

Name the tour. Click

OK.

How to overlay an image

Click the Add Image Overlay button to add a picture on top of a map.

Name the image overlay and click browse to select an image. This will appear in your

Places

You will likely want to remove the Road layer for best viewing of any overlay images.

How to share or post your file in kmz format

Right-click on a Place and select Share/Post

to get a kmz file of your

work.

Google Earth will open a browser window for you to share/post files.

Scroll down and choose Educators.

Click Submit.

Login to your Google Earth account

Type in a subject, choose an icon and type in the Post area.

A kmz file will be created as an attachment. Right-click on it to save the file to your disk.
