ABSTRACTOver the past few years, the number of Japanese people diagnosed with metabolic syndrome rose
rapidly, so the Japanese public has become significantly more health-conscious. In particular, the public has turned to a variety of different approaches to improve their overall health care including exercise and diet control. With regards to diet control one of the most popular methods has been to control oneÊŒs intake of saturated fatty acids. Historically, Japanese diets which target controlling saturated fatty acid intake have relied heavily on soybeans. However, recent studies indicate that avocado intake may be a more effective method of reducing oneÊŒs saturated fatty acid intake. The purpose of this research is to determine whether or not increased avocado intake leads to improved health care as it pertains to body weight, blood pressure, waist size, stool related issues, blood sugar levels, triglyceride and cholesterol levels.
Our results indicate that although there were insignificant differences in some areas, as compared to soybean consumption, avocado consumption led to significantly lower triglyceride levels, higher level of satiety and had less adverse effects on oneÊŒs colon, thus this served as a better dietary control for meta-bolic syndrome.
