Programme outlineIn Kelly’s home, the dirty monster leaves its boogers, snot and earwax everywhere. They are on the chairs, on the walls and even in the food. That is so gross! How does Kelly’s family get rid of the dirty monster? And what should we do to stop the spread of germs to prevent illness?

Communicative functions1. Learn about the words to identify the green mucus in the nose and the yellow waxy

substance secreted in the passage of the ears, e.g., boogers, snot, earwax2. Understand the use of prepositions such as “in” and “on” which indicate positions

such as It is on the fan, It is in the soup3. Learn about the use of the negative word “not” in simple sentences4. Learn how to keep clean and stay healthy

Suggested activities1. Introduce the programme and the main characters: Monster, Kelly, Mummy and

Libbie the helper.2. To get pupils talk about personal hygiene, teacher may use the pictures of the

monster’s boogers, snot and earwax in COPYMSTER 1, explaining how they should be disposed of properly.

3. Watch the programme with a language focus on the vocabulary items and prepositions.

4. After viewing, distribute COPYMSTER 1 to pupils. First, look at the pictures and words. Then fill in the blanks.
