83. V  The Lord be with you. R  And with your spirit.

V  Lift up your hearts. R  We lift them up to the Lord.

V  Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. R  It is right and just.

Then follows the Preface to be used in accord with the rubrics, which concludes:

Holy, Holy, Holy Lord God of hosts. Heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest.

84. The Priest, with hands extended, says:

To you, therefore, most merciful Father,  Celebrant alone

we make humble prayer and petition through Jesus Christ, your Son, our Lord:

He joins his hands and says

that you acceptHe makes the Sign of the Cross once over the bread and chalice together, saying:

and bless X these gifts, these offerings,these holy and unblemished sacrifices,

With hands extended, he continues:

which we offer you firstly for your holy catholic Church. Be pleased to grant her peace, to guard, unite and govern her throughout the whole world, together with your servant N. our Popeand N. our Bishop,*

and all those who, holding to the truth, hand on the catholic and apostolic faith.

34. The following Preface is said in Masses of Advent from 17 December to 24 December and in other Masses that are celebrated in Advent and have no proper Preface.

It is truly right and just, our duty and our salvation,always and everywhere to give you thanks,Lord, holy Father, almighty and eternal God,through Christ our Lord.

For all the oracles of the prophets foretold him,the Virgin Mother longed for himwith love beyond all telling,John the Baptist sang of his comingand proclaimed his presence when he came.

It is by his gift that already we rejoiceat the mystery of his Nativity,so that he may find us watchful in prayerand exultant in his praise.

And so, with Angels and Archangels,with Thrones and Dominions,and with all the hosts and Powers of heaven,we sing the hymn of your glory,as without end we acclaim:

Holy, Holy, Holy Lord God of hosts . . .
