All had Joint families. Punishments at the school were harsh. Team work was preferred by the students. Good atmosphere was maintained amongst the students. Languages were given more importance. Grand Parent’s school syllabus was different from the
syllabus in the schools of today. Some schools were gender biased. The relationship between the teacher and student was
professional.
Similarities between the school life of Grand Parents interviewed by RLO school and VIBGYOR HIGH
6 to 8 subjects were taught in a day. Punishments during the parent’s time were harsh. All schools organized extra-curricular activities. The mode of traveling to school was either public
transport or bike. Schools were mostly co-educational. All parents liked to go to school but some thought
it was boring as the focus of the schools was mainly academics.
Meetings between parents and teachers were held regularly.

Grand Parents went to a school where they could learn one job. The schools weren’t separated but girls didn’t go to a school where they learned how to fix cars and boys didn’t go to schools where they learned how to cook.
Religion was a compulsory subject during the grand parents time.

Comparison between Oudehoven School and VIBGYOR HIGH
Several punishments like write 10 or more pages from a book, stay after school to study, stand outside the class etc. were common.
No extra-curricular activities were organized in the school.
Almost all the grand parents had joint families. The school curriculum included theory and
practice only. The quality of teaching was very good. Teachers were respected by students and
parents.

Some had religious subject as compulsory.
No extra help was provided by the schools for the students suffering from problems like dyslexia.
There was no coaching or help for students with problems.
Similarities between the school life of GrandParents of Oudehoven school and VIBGYOR HIGH
Schools were vocational. Some parents of Oudehoven school went to a technical school where as India did not have vocational colleges commonly available during the parents’ school life.
In India we did not have vocational schools during the grand parents school life.
The grand parents went to the household school which was for boys and girls, but mainly girls attended this school.

We the members of School life group enjoyed the research work.
While taking the interviews we realized the problems faced by our parents and grand parents during their school life.
We developed the bond with our grand parents as otherwise we would have never come to know how their life was during their school life.
