En 2012, contaba con una población total de poco más de 9.5 millones de

personas. Tiene una densidad de población de sólo 22 h/km². Cerca del 84%

de la población vive en zonas urbanas. Los suecos disfrutan de un alto nivel

de vida y el país es generalmente percibido como moderno y liberal, con una

organización y cultura corporativa que no es jerárquica y colectivista en

comparación con sus homólogos anglosajones. La conservación de la

naturaleza, la protección del medio ambiente y la eficacia energética son por

lo general una prioridad en la formulación de políticas y cuentan con acogida

por gran parte del público.

Durante mucho tiempo fue un importante exportador de hierro, cobre y

madera. La mejora de los transportes y las comunicaciones ha permitido la

explotación a gran escala de bienes naturales, sobre todo la madera y el

mineral de hierro. En la década de 1980, la escolarización universal y la

industrialización permitieron al país desarrollar una exitosa industria

manufacturera. Tiene una rica oferta de energía hidráulica, pero carece

de petróleo y de yacimientos de carbón importantes. En el siglo XX se ubicó

constantemente entre los países con mejor Índice de Desarrollo Humano

(IDH).

La Suecia moderna surgió de la Unión de Kalmar en 1397, y de la unificación

del país por el rey Gustavo Vasa en el siglo XVI. En el siglo XVII, amplió sus

territorios para formar el Imperio sueco. La mayor parte de los territorios

conquistados fuera de la península escandinava se perdieron durante los

siguientes siglos. La mitad oriental de Suecia constituida por la mitad oriental

de Norrland y Österland se perdió frente a Rusia en 1809. Desde 1814, no ha

participado en ningún conflicto, manteniendo una política exterior de paz

y neutralidad en tiempo de guerra.

16 países formarán parte de esta primera semifinal de la 58ª edición de

Eurovision Song Contest 2013 que se celebrará en Suecia desde el Malmö

Arena de Malmö.

Petra Mede será la encargada de realizar las labores de presentadora en esta

edición de eurovisión.

10 participantes se clasificaran para la final que se celebrará el 18 de mayo a

los que se unirán los 10 clasificados de la 2ª semifinal y los 5 componentes del

Big 5, Alemania, España, Francia, Italia y Reino Unido mas el anfitrión de este

año, Suecia.

Biografía: Nathalie Kelley nació de madre peruana y padre argentino. Sin embargo, ella creció en Australia. Biografía: Pojavis comenzó a cantar a temprana edad, y durante la escuela secundaria tocó en una banda llamada No Hero. Después de graduarse de la secundaria, Pojavis se mudó a Vilna donde logró conseguir titularse de estudios de Historia en la Universidad Lituana de Ciencias Educacionales y participó en varios grupos, incluyendo Hetero, con quiénes ganó el concurso EuroRock en 2006. Biografía: Alyona Lanskaya nació el 7 de septiembre de 1985 en Maguilov, Bielorrusia, es una cantante bielorrusa, ganadora del concurso "Slaviansi Bar in Vítebsk". Biografía: Aliona Munteanu nació el 25 de mayo de 1989 en Chisinau. Desde la infancia Aliona era miembro de un montón de colectivos artísticos (música, danza). Al ser miembro de ellos, Aliona ha participado en diferentes concursos en Hungría, Bielorrusia, Francia, Rumania, Bulgaria y por supuesto en su país natal, Moldavia. Aliona representará a Moldavia con la canción O Mie tras conseguir el triunfo en la final nacional organizada por la TRM, O Mie ha sido compuesta por Pasha Parfeny, representante de Moldavia en eurovisión 2012.

Biografía: Ryan Dolan nació en Strabane, Irlanda del Norte, en 1985. Básicamente ha trabajado siendo corista de numerosos artistas irlandeses como Tinchy Stryder o los eurovisivos Jedward entre los más destacados. Actualmente trabaja con el productor Wez Devine, que será el encargado de lanzar el que será su primer disco al mercado, aunque sin fecha decidida. Lo más destacado fue su aparición en la final irlandesa para Eurovisión 2013 gracias a Stuart O’Connor, que se convirtió en su mentor, requisito indispensable para poder participar en la final.

Biografía: Despina Oympiou también conocida como Dena Olympiou, nació el 17 de octubre de 1975 en Limassol, Chipre. Comenzó a cantar profesionalmente en 1992 y desde entonces ha colaborado con un gran número de artistas como Marios Tokas, Demetris Mitropanos y Charis Alexiou entre otros. Su álbum debut salió al mercado en el año 2000 bajo el título 'Ton Mation Sou I Kalimera' y desde entonces ha publicado un total de seis álbumes. Varios de ellos fueron escritos por Michalis Hatzigiannis y sus colaboraciones con él a lo largo de su carrera se han repetido. Su álbum de 2010 fue el más vendido en Chipre aquella temporada.

Biografía: Roberto Bellarosa nació en 1994, es un cantante belga de ascendencia italiana, vencedor de la primera edición de la versión belga de La Voz. Descendiente de una familia de futbolistas, Roberto fue inscrito por sus padres a la edad de 9 años en el conservatorio de Huy para aprender solfeo. En una sesión de canto su profesor remarcó su voz y recomendó a sus padres que le apuntarán a clases de canto. El 16 de noviembre de 2012, la televisión franco-belga RTBF anuncia que Roberto representará a Bélgica en Eurovisión 2013. El tema que defenderá en Malmö, "Love kills", fue elegido entre tres canciones candidatas en un programa especial de radio el 16 de diciembre de 2012.
