EUROPEMININGSUMMIT 20

ABOUT THE SUMMITEurope as a continent is one of the richest in natural resources, with a long tradition of being active in mining. The European mining industry is critical for the economy of Europe as the industry drives forward in line with European Union objectives and goals supporting further development.

Europe is able to cover its own needs from its domestic production given that the majority of the minerals being produced are industrial, corresponding directly to the industrial needs of Europe. However, the continent is an importer of most metals and metal ores, with the European Union’s target being to discover new mining deposits so Europe can become self-sufficient in terms of both minerals, metals, and metal ore. The mining industry in the region is very active and prosperous, with new techniques and technologies being implemented and developed within Europe, that are constantly leading the continent to benefit from its mining resources and wealth.

The Europe Mining 2015 Summit is the only Summit focusing on the European mining industry’s developments in recent years, with dedicated focus on future plans for further development. The Summit will give the audience a unique opportunity to meet with the Regulatory Authorities, Investment Bodies, Mining Companies, Service and Equipment Providers responsible for all major mining projects in Europe. Senior-level Speakers will review and discuss the current and upcoming business opportunities in Europe by examining every part of the mining exploration and production process in the European Countries.

Meet the biggest players in the industry and the current mining explorers and operators as well as top technology providers, to fully understand how you can form your strategy to be involved. You will benefit from real case studies and operational success stories to acknowledge the practicalities of the sector, and to gain hands on insights from those with experience and expertise in each European country. Moreover, our 5* setting will provide the best context to develop your business relationships and of course, give you an atmosphere to genuinely enjoy.

ABOUT THE REGION

GreenlandOver a fifth of the world’s untapped reserves of coal, uranium, gold, diamonds, zinc, platinum, nickel and iron ore are found in Greenland. As global warming uncovers precious metals, the country is expected to be one of the world’s next major mining frontiers. Greenland is widely recognized as one of the world’s largest resources of rare earth elements.

SwedenSweden’s mining industry is an major contributor in Europe’s self-sufficiency. Sweden holds an extraordinary position with its attractive investment environment and rich mineral resources. It is estimated that in 2025 Sweden could triple its mining production.

Turkey Turkey’s main mineral export is steel and iron. In recent years, production increased significantly as a result of both local and foreign investment trends. Advanced mining technologies have been introduced as exploration investment rises. Turkey carries an estimated 82.5 million tons of iron ore reserves, and imports also rose by 18% last year and reached 7.8 million tons.

Poland Poland ranked third in mined zinc, sixth in silver, and seventh in coal and sulphur - all major export commodities. Poland is also listed in the top ten in mining copper and is a leading producer in central Eurasia and Europe for lead, lime, nitrogen, and salt.

SpainSpain owns the most mineralised territory in Western Europe and is the home of one of the richest open-pit zinc mines in Europe. The country produces significant resources of industrial mineral and stone; while it is a leading EU producer of sodium sulphate, slate and strontium minerals.

IrelandIreland has a long history in exploration and mining. It is internationally known as a zinc province, is Europe’s largest producer of mined zinc and ranks among the top ten in the world. Ireland has a varied geology with potential for a diverse range of metals and industrial mineral deposits. The well-established minerals policy and regulatory regime facilitates a progressive and sustainable framework for the exploration and working of minerals and the closure of operations leading to productive long-term land use and management.

Albania Privatisation has become a priority for the Government within the mining sector as they offer concessions for construction and operations. Production is occurring in 300 deposits with a variety of 25 different kinds of minerals and rocks. Albania is well known for chromium, copper, nickel and copper reserves.

Along with general sessions around the regulatory framework and outlook of the European mining industry, there will be case studies looking at what is happening in specific European countries’ mining landscape, including:

and many more...
