MUAYTHAI MANIA 7, SZENTENDRE, HUNGARY

Muaythai Mania 7. WMC event, 14th February

2015, Szentendre, Hungary

The first event in 2015 of WMC Hungary brought

an interesting evening. St Valentine’s Day saw

intense fights in five weight classes, including the

first female WMC bout in Hungary. Professional

muaythai seems to take over in Hungary, thanks

to the promoters of Muaythai Mania. This was the

third in a raw, and the first for 2015 event under

the WMC umbrella, with a sold out venue, and a

great atmosphere. As the organisators managed to

sign a contract with one of the leading sports

channels of Hungary, Sport Klub, the fights are

recorded, and a highlight programme is

broadcasted trying to popularise muaythai.

Looking forward to the next event in April, when

there will be a Pro-Amateur gala between Hungary

and Lithuania.

4TH ROUND OF INTERNATIONAL MUAYTHAI LEAGUE IN SLOVENIA

Another successful IMTL event was staged in the Slovenian

town of Crnomelj. Organizers Muay Thai gym Crnomelj

and Slovenian Muaythai Federation have put together a

solid event with fighters from 4 countries (Austria, Croatia,

Serbia and Slovenia) took part in 10 interesting fights.

Young fighters have yet again proven they are developing

and have shown progress in the same way the IMTL has

done over the past 5 years of existence giving room for

fighters who have become recognized world-wide.

The fight that stood out was the one between Slovenian

Grega Smole and talented Austrian Kristijan Zecevic. It

turned out to be a hard fought technical fight. Smole proved

his role as a favourite through a unanimous decision,

however Zecevic offered stiff resistance all the way till the

final bell. Award for the fighter of the evening went to home

fighter Martin Kobetic, who, despite illness, defeated Serbian

Vuk Jankovic in a high-paced fight.

The last, 5th round of 2014/15 season will be held on April

11th in Novo mesto Slovenia, where notable fighting names

will appear on the fight card: such as Franci Grajs, Mirko

Vorkapic, Tadej Toplak and Grega Smole. Fighters from 22

gyms and 12 European countries are expected in Novo

mesto, which will guarantee a fighting feast for all muaythai

supporters in the region.

Muaythai judging and refereeing course in the

city of northern lights

Muaythai association of Finland organized a

one day judge and referee course in the city of

Oulu, northern Finland on 28th of February. 35

eager new judges and refs took part in the

course, which was held by the Finland’s only

EMF-IFMA international female judge/referee

Katarina Perkkiö.

In the very beginning of the course the edukator

MUAYTHI JUDGING AND REFEREEING COURSE IN FINLAND

Perkkiö, held a very important speech to all the

students. She emphasized the importance

unbiased and fair spirit in all the judging.

The speech highlighted the importance of

judging each athlete by the same unbiased

standards. The judging is solely based of the

rules and standards of the sport, and no such

things as the age, size, gender, religion, ethnic

background, or the club athlete represents

should influence the actions and decisions of

the referee/judge.

The first training session started out by going

through the obligations of the judge, the

principals of scoring points, and how to use

the scoring sheet properly. After this, the

educator went through the significant

principals in judging the fight properly. The

forbidden and incorrect techniques, which

should not be taken into consideration when

judging a fight, were live demonstrated to the

students.

EMF Newsletter February 2015

In the refereeing part the educator introduced

the fundamental etiquette rules and the

principals of refereeing. The movement of the

referee and the progression of the fight was also

live demonstrated to the students. Perkkiö

emphasized the role and the responsibility of

the referee before, during and after the fight.

At the end of the education day the student

gathered to watch and judge several fights. The

peak of the day was the gym competitions

organized by the Finland’s northest muaythai

club; Oulun Kamppailuklubi. The new judges

got to judge all the fights and two new referees

successfully refereed the fights.

All the new judges and referees are now

qualified to performance in all the events held

under the Muaythai association of Finland.
