PLAN OF THE PRESENTATION:

PAST: Why the workgroup was created (aims and rationale);PRESENT: current activities (1st meeting, interim period, 2nd meeting);FUTURE: activities after the 2nd meeting (towardsthe 3rd meeting and next);AND BEYOND: the final document (guidelines), information-exchange platform, further activities afterclosing the Workgroup;

AIM:„to exchange pesticide groundwater monitoring data andfrequent updates about the focus of national monitoring,and to assist each other in the interpretation of the data.”

RATIONALE:1) Groundwater monitoring data should beincluded in the assessment of leaching risk ofpesticides and their metabolites.

RATIONALE:

2) Monitoring data is generated in most European countries, buttheir use for leaching risk assessment during pesticideauthorization is sometimes difficult due to the followingreasons:i. the data is not often publicaly available or available in an

aggregated form in a report;ii. most often it is available in the national language of the

origin country only, which makes it hard for other countriesto use it;

iii. the interpretation of groundwater monitoring data requiresdetailed knowledge of the local, geological, hydrological andclimatic conditions, and also knowledge about the crops andthe use practice for pesticides;

AUDIENCE:AT PRESENT: regulators representing authoritiesevaluating PPP (MS, EFSA, COM);

NEXT STAGE: risk managers and people fromgovermental institutions involved in monitoringactivities (time of the action still under consideration);

Involvement of the Industry/Notifiers not forseen atpresent.

SOME RESOLUTIONS:

- Demark to chair the Workgroup,- At present Workgroup is open for persticide risk assessors

(option for later period – to invite representatives fromagencies performing monitoring, and possibly riskmanagers),

- No limitations regarding the number of would-beparticipants from each MS, but one contact person –contact point per country (preferably attendant of themeeting),

- New meeting – autumn 2019, agenda to be prepared byvolunteeres in the interim period;

- Questionnaire to get more information about the GWmonitoring programmes in each MS – to be distributed,collected and processed in the interim period;

- Presentations from the meeting to be made available later;
