ASD Mission
3
ASD's overall mission is to enhance the competitive
development of the Aeronautics, Space, Defence and
Security Industry in Europe in partnership with
European Institutions and Member associations.
@ ASD-STAN 2019
ASD-STAN is ...
… an international association constituted according to Belgian law;
… a non-profit association “aisbl”;
… part of the European Standardization System implemented by CEN*;
… an affiliated company to ASD for development and publication of
standards.
*CEN = Comité Européen de Normalisation, European Committee for Standardization
About Us
4@ ASD-STAN 2019
ASD-STAN represents ASD in the field of Standardization
▪ ASD-STAN
✓ Develops standards;
✓ Maintains standards;
✓ Publishes and sells online its own standards and technical reports
→ ASD-STAN projected European Norm (ASD-STAN prEN), ASD-STAN TR;
✓ Transfers ASD-STAN prEN standards to CEN for publication as European
Norms (EN) (no technical change between ASD-STAN prEN and CEN EN)
✓ Provides trainings (ASD-STD 100 “Simplified Technical English”,
REACH, Training on 9100).
▪ Membership in ASD-STAN includes number of national aerospace
associations who are also ASD members and other organizations (Statutes )
▪ See more information about the involvement in the Aerospace
Standardization on our web-page “Why and how to be involved?”

Cooperation with CEN since 1973 (AECMA CN → AECMA-STAN → ASD-STAN)
• 1986 AECMA-STAN recognised by CEN as an “Associated Body” and “Sole
Provider of Aerospace Standards” → ASD-STAN = CEN TC “Aerospace”
→ CEN member “stand still treaty” avoids new or revised national
standards on the same subject
➢ 2446 currently published European Standards originate from ASD-STAN =
12% of the total CEN/CENELEC publication of ENs
➢ currently 760 published prEN by ASD-STAN, apart from that 160 Standards
currently in progress towards EN.
➢ 683 ongoing standardization projects within ASD-STAN by 720 direct experts
(multiplicator) organized in 39 ASD-STAN WGs
➢ 69 Technical Reports published by ASD-STAN
➢ Yearly production (2018): ca. 107 ASD-STAN prENs and 125 ENs
ASD-STAN Cooperation with the CEN

➢ Cybersecurity
➢ REACH compatible Standards
➢ Unmanned Aircraft Systems (EC standardization request, EASA specification
on open category)
➢ Additive Manufacturing
➢ Digitalization of standards (e.g. Blockchain for Aviation)
