European Voluntary Service in French speaking Belgium! Dear partners, please find here below a description of the EVS available places JAVVA can offer throughout its network of local partners. If any of your volunteers is interested in these projects, we would be happy to receive their application and learn more about them. There are 7 EVS placements that are available. We wish to apply for May 1 st , 2012 deadline. Projects have different durations and starting dates. Please check for details in each section. All the projects involve direct contact with a disadvantaged public. This means that we ask volunteers to have a beginner/intermediate level of French in order to guarantee a smooth integration in the projects. Volunteers are required to choose up to 2 projects and to send us a CV and a project-related motivation letter. European Voluntary Service in French speaking Belgium!

Dear partners, please find here below a description of the EVS available places JAVVA can offer throughout its network of local partners. If any of your volunteers is interested in these projects, we would be happy to receive their application and learn more about them. There are 7 EVS placements that are available. 2010-BEFR-43Centre for asylum seekers Fedasil in Rixensart (Brabant Wallon)12 months starting October 1st, 2012

The volunteer will integrate the service of leisure activities, whose aims are, on the on side, to support children and teenagers in their schooling and, on the other, to organise leisure time activities, mainly in the social and cultural field, for the residents. Some activities in the neighbourhood are also carried out, whose aim is to raise awareness in the local community about asylum seekers.

The volunteer will work in the leisure activities department of the centre. He/she will have to co-lead and to co-organise different activities for children and also with the women. The activities vary from creative and artistic workshops to cultural excursions to sports activities to helping the youngsters in the cybercafé. Occasionally the volunteer will also help the kids and teenagers with their homework.

2011-BEFR-6Red Cross in Louvain-La-Neuve (Brabant Wallon)10 months starting September 1st, 2012

The young EVS will support two departements: Youth and Migrations. S/he will have time to observe and understand the ways in which he/she will be working with the Red Cross. S/he will become involved in matters regarding youth, migration, Red Cross Movement and international action from the campus, only to later spread attention over the region. Activities include:

• Establishing a connection with the Red Cross in his/her country of origin, and consider possible collaboration.

• Participating in organising and running events on the campus, connect with groups of student in relation to these activities.

• Participating in regional youth activities.• Participating in general Red Cross activities, establishing a means of following youth event at the various

Red Cross Centers, taking part in social coffee gatherings, and first aid trainings.Accomodation in a shared flat in Louvain-La-Neuve

2011-BEFR-7Red Cross in Arlon (Luxembourg)12 months starting September 1st, 2012

The overall purpose of the project is to encourage discussion between the Red Cross and the various social organisations of the region (including youth centers, schools, etc.). Activities include:

• Presenting the goals and activities of the Red Cross in schools• Presenting teaching materials, especially those including blood donation and the dissimilation of

humanitarian goals, in schools.• Encouraging an understanding of the principles and values of the Red Cross in schools.

• Organising outtings and vacation trips for disadvantaged children.• Running stands and booths at festivals.• Creating Red Cross points at schools to encourage students to participate in our volunteer activities.• Develop activities relevant to high schools and youth movements.• Create youth activities at the Red Cross Houses to integrate young volunteers.

2011-BEFR-8Red Cross in Liège12 months starting September 1st, 2012

The EVS will act as a relay between the various Red Cross Agencies and the Provincial Committee, as well as heading initiatives in youth, migration and international action. Activities include:

• Participating in the recruitment of new volunteers• Preparing the Red Cross Youth Days• Participating in the dissemination of of new methods of

working with youth• Participating in the diffusion of pedagogical tools• Teaching about human rights at schools• Participating in high publicity events• Organising and helping with summer camps

Accomodation in an indicidual bedsit in Liège.

2011-BEFR-9Red Cross centre for asylum seekers in Yvoir (Namur)12 months starting September 1st, 2012

The EVS will at first begin to take part in community life by helping the asylum seekers with day to day tasks in order to help integrate the center into the social environment, and especially to create a network of cooperation with the various Red Cross Centers. Regarding activities, at first the volunteer will participate in those that allow him/her to better understand the context in which the center works, including:

• socio-cultural and athletic activities;• relations with the neighbors;• relations with the Yvoir Youth Center;• developing a project with the adults or youth residing at the

center. Once the volunteer begins to feel comfortable with the structure of the center and relations with other organisations they will be invited to take the initiative with activities such as working on the “Migrants Space” project and presenting the various issues with immigration to the Red Cross centers.

2008-BEFR-18 (soon to be newly accredited)JAVVA asbl12 months starting September 1st, 2012

The volunteer will work in a small youth organisation promoting volunteering among youngsters. His/her tasks will be connected to three fields of activities: developing initiatives for the members of the organisation, supporting the training programme and getting involved in the promotion and communication of the organisations's activities issues related to the organisation. The volunteer's tasks will include:

• participating in events and fairs related to volunteering, tourism, youth work all around Belgium;

• taking part in the thematic groups of the organisation (the one focused on migrations, the other dealing with inclusion issues);

• logistical support to the training team and leading some workshops; • promotion of the organisation, contact and events in youth structure around Belgium so to promote EVS

and other forms of volunteering; • contribution to the site, the newsletter and other

(waiting for accreditation from the NA)Senior residence « Val du Héron », Rixensart12 months starting September 1st, 2012

The senior residence proposes leisure time and wellbeing activities to its residents. The volunteer will work togheter with the staffa and the local volunteers so to support existing initiative and create new one. The volunteer wil work in three different fields:

• contributing to the residences' activities giong from sports to music to artistic or relaxation workshops;

• taking part into activities aimed at developing contact between different generations. These initiatives count on the participation of the residents and are carried out in schools, kindergartens and other local organisations;

• collecting the life stories of the residents in order to keep track of them and to present them through differentforms of expression, from an exhibition to a website.
