Logo:

Throughout my two ancillary tasks and my trailer I included the film title and logo to

keep consistency and make it instantly recognisable to any one who sees it. By

keeping the same font and colours used it will associate the three products so that

anyone who has seen the trailer/poster for the film and wants to find out more may

see the magazine cover and therefore buy it to read about The Omega.

Slogan:

My trailer for the film is ‘once the curse has got you there’s no escape’. I decided to

include that within my film poster after researching existing products and finding a

common convention is a slogan. The reason I chose that as the phrase to use was

that it is a piece of dialogue taken directly from my trailer therefore there is another

crossover. When the voice over is talking there is a break in speech before she

delivers that line and that is the last piece of spoken dialogue said in my trailer

therefore should be memorable. As it is memorable it can provide a link to the poster

and is effective in combining my products to create a brand.

Mise-en-scene:

Location and Lightning:

My magazine front cover was shot in the same forest location in which I filmed my footage; this is so that anyone who has seen

the film can establish the link. It would be wrong for me to photograph my protagonist in a bright or happy setting when

promoting a horror film therefore I thought I would place here in the scene where most of the horror action occurs so readers of

the magazine can relate and it would be effective in portraying my genre. Images 3 and 4 show the use of the forest setting on

my magazine front cover and in my trailer.

The lightning I used throughout consisted of high key lighting on the focal point however low key lighting within the background.

I used a dark background to symbolise the uncertainty the characters are feeling of what might happen to them/what is behind

them. Images 1 and 2 are screenshots from my trailer and show how the character can be clearly seen however nothing in the

background can be, it is hidden and could conceal any potential threat. This is effective as when the audience are watching it

they feel fearful for the character as the darkness often connotes the unknown. Image 5 is taken from my film poster, The main

protagonist played by Kerri is the main attraction within the poster however if you zoom in and look more closely you can make

out the two figures of the other characters. This requires to look carefully into the background and these figures may not be

seen upon first viewing therefore it highlights the fact something could be lurking in the background and reinforces that aspect in

the trailer.

Characters:As Kerri is the protagonist she features in all 3 of my products. For my trailer she is the character who

appears most often featuring in scenes such as running, looking at graves and being dragged behind the tree.

As she is seen the most in the trailer she will be the one the audience will remember most so it was important

that she provided a link between the products. She is photographed in both my magazine cover and film

poster looking directly at the camera so is directly addressing the audience almost as if to entice them to

watch the film. On my magazine front cover I have decided to use just her and not feature the other 3

characters as I felt it was important not to categorise the characters as of the same importance when the

other two do not feature as heavily. Also often films have 3 lead characters however include a sole main one

within the three for example Harry Potter in the trio of himself, Ron and Hermione.

In my film poster I felt it was necessary to include the other two girls however feature them in a smaller

position in lower lighting to show they are not as prominent as Kerri – ‘Lucy’. By featuring them on my poster

people who may be familiar with them may want to go see it more and the aspect of them faded into the black

background forms a vital feature of my poster and the consistency with my trailer.

On my film poster I have included the

actor’s names so that anyone familiar

with them may be more inclined or

influenced to see the film and also to

establish the link from the faces that

feature in the trailer.

In my film poster I decided to frame it with the

REC edit I had used in my trailer. The REC

effect indicates the documentary home style

footage that I shot therefore fans of films that

use that style of filming e.g. Blair Witch

Project or Paranormal activity may want to

watch the Omega if that’s what they enjoy.

In my ancillary productions I have

included other common conventions

to add to the verisimilitude of my

products and make them seem

more realistic and what you would

expect from an existing product.

Page 9: Eval q2

Overall the combination of my trailer with my ancillary productions are effective

as it successfully creates links between all 3 so that they are easily identifiable

as representing The Omega and the horror genre. The work together to

promote the film and showcase the protagonist character throughout so that

the audience becomes familiar with her and untimely they identify with her

more in the film so that when she is put in danger, the audience feel fearful

and protective over her.

They also reinforce the horror nature through dark locations surrounded by

uncertainty which contrasts with the white of the logo/slogan splashed

throughout.
