challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Poses My model is posing in a conventional manner, to the other models on the Hip-Hop and RNB magazine.

PropsThe professional magazine has jewellery as props, her feminine dress and also her make up. My magazine also has conventional props, for example:-Bracelets-Flower pin-Light make up-Florally clothing These conventional props make my music magazine look more realistic.

My Masthead

Actual Mastheads

My masthead is very bold and eye catching. Like other music magazines mastheads, mines is written in capital letters. This is conventional to many RNB and Hip-Hop magazines as it gives of a powerful and strong impact. XXL’s masthead is written in crystals and like my masthead I have also added crystal like features.

Sell Lines My sell lines are very conventional, on the left I have named other artists that are going to be featured in my magazine and just like the professional magazine, they have also listed the artists and bands. The use of alliteration in my magazine engages the reader “Summer’s Sensational Story.” XXL also uses alliteration, “The Rebirth of Rap Royalty,” this convention attracts the reader

into buying the magazine. The typography on my music magazine, (Aharoni, taken from Photoshop) is bold and easy to read. It is also a very common font as XXL’s typography is very similar.

Colours

Nearly all RNB and Hip-Hop magazines use 3 colours. This is because it allows people to read all the sell lines easily and with less colours it keeps the magazine less confusing. In my magazine I have also used 3 colours which are red, whiteand blue. The information in red are to grab the readers eye and tries to persuade the reader to buy the magazine, for example, the word EXCLUSIVE and FREE shows the reader that their is something given away in the this magazine which doesn't cost them. The word ‘exclusive’ also persuades the reader as it shows them that the information provided wont be found elsewhere. XXL also uses 3 colours and they are red, white and black. Again, the main information that convinces the reader to buy the magazine is in red.

PuffMany RNB and Hip-Hop magazines use puffs. It is used to make their magazine better than all of the other magazines of that genre. It is also a feature that persuades the reader to buy the magazine.

My puffFor my puff, I have used “Best RNB magazine EVER!” This shows the reader that my RNB magazine is “the best EVER!”

Professional Magazines Puff XXL used “Hip Hop On A Higher Level.” This puff is used many times in XXL magazines, which adds to their brand identity.

Front Page

My magazine is very conventional to other RNB and Hip-Hop music magazines. For example, my masthead is placed behind my main artist just like XXL’s magazine. Both magazines have a barcode. My artist is looking straight at the audience showing direct address, XXL’s artist also shows direct address, which is important as it brings the audience.

Contents

My contents page, just like the professional contents page has an editorial. The layout of my contents page is quite similar to the professional contents magazine and so I think it looks very professional. On both, the professional and my contents page, there are many pictures. This is vital as it shows the reader who and what is going to be featured in the magazine.

Double Page Spread

Both double page spreads have a title. Another conventional feature is that the article is written in columns . I have a main image of my artist and so does the professional magazine. There are also additional images of the artist. The professional double page spread also has a floating quote. My magazine also features a floating quote showing conventions.

Challenges ConventionsMajority of RNB and Hip-Hop magazines have men on their front covers. On my magazine I have a woman, this challenges the conventions of a typical RNB and Hip-Hop magazine
