What is a Film Distributor

A film distributor is a company or individual responsible for the marketing of a film. The distributor may set the release date of a film and the method by which a film is to be exhibited or made available for viewing: for example, directly to the public either theatrically or for home viewing.

Institution I chose Is Warner Brother. Warner Bros. Pictures International is a global leader in the marketing and distribution of feature films, operating offices in more than 30 countries and releasing films in over 120 international territories, either directly to theaters or in conjunction with partner companies and co-ventures.

Warner Brothers work on plenty of film genres for example:

• Action The action genre is a class of creative works characterized by more emphasis on

exciting action sequences than on character development or story-telling. There are many sub-genres, Including martial arts action, extreme sports action, car chases and vehicles, Suspense action, and action comedy, with each focusing in more detail on its own type and flavor of action.

• Comedy

Comedy is a genre of film that uses humor as a driving force. The aim of a comedy film is to illicit laughter from the audience through entertaining stories and characters. Although the comedy film may take on some serious material, most have a happy ending.

• Romantic Romance film can be defined as a genre wherein the plot revolves around the love

between two protagonists. This genre usually has a theme that explores an issue within love.

• Sci-fi

Science fiction is a genre of fiction dealing with imaginative content such as futuristic settings, futuristic science and technology, space travel, time travel, parallel universes, and extraterrestrial life.

• My reference film from this institution is Million Dollar Baby. In this film Maggie Fitzgerald, a poor thirty-one year old waitress from the very lower classes and with a dysfunctional loser family, decides to make a difference through boxing. She convinces the experienced hardened boxing trainer Frankie Dunn to coach her and be her manager, with the support of his old partner Eddie Scrap-Iron Dupris, who sees her potential as a boxer. Same as in my film Harold a teenage boy belongs to a poor background and he wants to become rich by fighting the world championship “The Final Fight”.
