What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
Choosing the industry…
The kind of media institution that I would want to distribute and publish my magazine would have to be one that already has a noticeable position within this type of media industry in
order for my magazine which possess qualities of a non-conventional magazine so that it is able to be pitched properly to a wide enough audience,
to actually gain recognition on the market.
Who?
To do this I have chosen Bauer Media, who are Europe’s largest privately, owned publishing
Group. It is a worldwide media empire offering over 300 magazines in 15 countries, as well as
online, TV and radio stations.
Why?
They have worked with organizations such as 4Music and Kerrang which shows that the
distribution from this media group is heavily based on music, which has become successful,
meaning that they are able to work in this area successfully, as well as distribute my
magazine with the experience in which they have, despite my magazine having
unconventional qualities.
Ultimately…
Their success shows that they have already managed to establish themselves effectively. By researching
and employing a current effectual institution, which clearly knows the key areas of music, as a distributor it will be easier to fill the gap in the market with my
magazine and in turn correspond with my target audience to provide them with a magazine which tailors to their interests, ensuring that the content
and the way that it is marketed appeals to all of that particular social group.
Problems to overcome…
I am pricing my magazine at £3.99, which could be considered as a high price for people ages
16/17, who I intend to aim my magazine at, as they may not have a job, however feel that if Bauer manage to distribute and publish my
magazine successfully, I could potentially still gain a large amount of people to read, and
consider my magazine as more upmarket than others.
In conclusion…
I believe that Bauer would be the group to successfully distribute my magazine purely
because of their already published magazines, which have proven successful, shown through
statistics above, their work with popular music, and work with TV and radios. I will need
someone who is already recognized so that my magazine makes it in the market successfully.
