MastheadThe masthead on the coverpage is located at the top leftof the page, similar to mostother magazines. I chose tofollow convention to lookprofessional and recognizableto regular viewers.

Left ThirdI chose to add a left third as itis a good way to addinformation about the issueinside the magazine, on thecover page. It’s on the left sowhen on the shelves in stores,it is clear to the viewer. It isconvention to have a left thirdon magazines.

LureI added a lure onto the coverpage to promote the article inthis issue. It gives more depthand offers interest. Also, it is amagazine convention.

Byline/ Cover lineI chose to have my main articleas the byline as it is clear andstands out from the rest of thepage. Bylines are conventionalon cover pages.

BannerThe banner gives extrainformation and is a graphic. Ichose to have this as it isconventional.

BarcodeThe barcode is a convention asit allows the magazine to besold. I chose to have it at thetop as the rest of the layoutfits best around it being at thetop.

House StyleThe house style is red, whiteand black. These colours aren’tdominant to a particulargender and also look dominantand professional. I amfollowing convention as othermagazines such as Q followsimilar house colours.

Main ImageThe dominant image is largeand covers the entire page. Idecided to lay it out like this asI felt it was most striking andvisually appealing.

GraphicsI added graphics to make themagazine look more appealing. It also allows me to promotearticles and advertisements. Ichose to have it on the rightside as it looks nice and placeswell with other elements.

AdvertorialThe advertorial promotes thefree MP3 inside the magazine,it is clear and looksprofessional and encouragespeople to buy the magazine.

Masthead/TypefaceI chose to have the masthead located inthe same position so there was a housestyle in the layout of all my pages. Ithink it also looks very professional.

TitleI chose to place the title of the pagesnext to the masthead so it is clear andnot too distracting from the otherelements on the page.

Article TitleThe article title is very large and in atypography style. It follows the housestyle colours and suits the page and it’slayout. It is conventional to have thetitle at the top of the page.

GutterThe gutter is in between the twocolumns of copy in the DPS pages. This makes the magazine layoutlook professional like othermagazines and is conventional.

Mode of AddressThe mode of address in the article isinformal as the target audience is youngadults and they won’t want to read amore complex piece of writing.
