Real Music Magazines

How you developed your house style in its use of colours, graphic features and branding. What style did you use?

I used the same font throughout the whole of my magazine. The font I used was

‘Rockwell’. I did this to keep my work simple and to make sure that my audience

could read my magazine with no problems.

Also I used a colour scheme of black, white, red and yellow. I used this effectively

as I didn’t want to use too many different colours as that would make it too

overpowering. The colour scheme I used are all colours that can be used

together and that look good together.

My magazine cover is very similar in

terms of layout to Kerrang magazine.

How you made use of the space (dead space is space that is not

made enough use of and normally appears on covers whereas

white space is space that should be there for impact and appeal

and normally appears on double-page spreads) and arranged the various features in the best arrangement possible.

I have structured my work to not have any dead space. I mostly filled the

gaps with pictures and putting my text into columns.

Using columns was the most effective arrangement to use throughout my

magazine product and it kept it looking professional.

I mainly used this on my double page spread and my contents page as these

used the most text and it was a neat and organised arrangement to use.

Another way I made use of space was using photographs. This was a great

way to fill in gaps and I placed text boxed underneath the photographs

containing useful captions.

Arranging the features on my magazine gave me a definite decision on

where I would like things placed. I moved my photographs around allot to

make sure they were the right size or to see if they needed flipping or cutting.

them / what effect they have.

BOLD

The main convention I used in my magazine is

bold writing. I used this to make the most

important parts of the magazine stand out. For

example the title of the magazine to catch the

audience’s eye. This has a positive effect as it

draws the readers eye to the magazine which will

hopefully take their interest.

MASTHEAD

Another convention I used in my magazine is

a masthead. I used this as it is a very important

part of a magazine. My masthead included

the title, price and date. The effect of the

masthead is to give the audience the vital

information of the magazine so they know

what magazine they are buying, how much it

is and what date it was published.
