In what ways does my media product use, develop or

challenge forms of conventions of real media

products?

Genre Characteristics

The clothing style matches the characteristics for my genre with flat cap and urban clothing shown in an example rap video.

both my video and the example video are performance based, as most rap videos are.

Mise en scene of rap artist in the UK are based in urban locations, showing environment of the artist, which I have tried to mimic with the locations I chosen.Colour scheme on the rap

album example, shows three house colours (black, red and white) and clutter free, and simple which I have incorporated in my album cover

Confident Posture was another genre characteristic I picked p on which is evident by the way I am sitting. Also jewellery and expensive car was essential as rap artist show off there wealth as shown in the example.

Establishing a relationship between music and visuals and lyrics and visuals.

‘’Should I stick to my studies linking theory to education’’The location of this shot is beside a school and my costume is formal to amplify lyrics.

Both of the images above show how I have used visual text in masculine Serif font style to amplify the lyrics in the rap video. In the image on the right I also used the filming to amplify the lyrics with the character scoring a basket resembling achievement.

As the drum roll begins just before I begin my lyrics, I sped up a shooting of me dancing to match the speed of the drum roll to amplify the relationship between music and visuals.

Predominantly my music video is performance based so is constantly showing relationship between lyrics and visuals, amplify the meaning of the lyrics as well as giving a sense of direct address to the audience.

Close up of artist, image motifs and notion of looking

These are images taken from my video showing the close up of my artist, clearly meeting the needs of a record label. Close-ups are coherent throughout the video.

The image motif related to this artist is his face and his flat cap which is consistently appearing in all the products, including album, magazine advert and music video.

I developed the notion of looking in my coursework, mostly using direct addressing of the audience as my video was performance based. This was the reason I used direct addressing images for my ancillary tasks to help establish the brand identity characteristic of my artists face. However there are scenes of the artist looking through the car which shows indirect addressing so the audience are intrigued. Also in some cases my props are looking in different directions helping emphasise to the audience focus the artist

Visual Style and brand identity

I have consistently used Serif font style, to symbolise strength in the artist and also this is characteristic found on material from other artists in this genre.

I failed to keep the font face consistent, in the music video with my ancillary task, this was due to the lack of font faces available on iMovie, however to create the visual style I kept to a 3 colour housing theory: red, black and white, which is consistent through out my work.

Brand Identity for the audience to remember is the reoccurring BMW, the black and red flat cap and close-up of the face of the artist.

Fast cut montage

I specifically used the fast cut montage effect near the beginning of the track, I used this effect to link visuals with music, one of Goodwins principles. As the beat started to speeds up, the cutting from shot to shot increases in speed. The footage above is about is only 3 seconds long.

How I created this effect:First of all I chose the clips from my final story board and then used the precision trimmer to shorten the clips to 0.3 seconds each. Finally I attached a few transitions between the clips.

Conventions used on digi-pack and Magazine advert

3 house colour rule used: red, black and white, consistent through out ancillary tasks

Use of consistent font face, creates a clear brand identity for the artist, so the audience can relate the name to the artist picture.

Wealth shown through the expensive vehicle, designer side bag and ‘big face’ watch

Notion of looking is used in the magazine advert. I have made it look like my artist is looking at his album, leading the audience to have a look too.

Large serif font style used to grab the reader attention
