Evaluation Question 1: In What

Ways Does Your Media Product

Use, Develop Or Challenge

Forms And Conventions Of Real

Media Products?

By Dannie Walker

Page 2: Evaluation question 1

Killer – Beth CheshireMy film differs from other horror films because

of many reasons, one of them being that my

killer is female where stereotypically they are

males.

Freddy Kruger – Nightmare On Elm Street

Also, in some films the

killer has a deformity or

a psychological

problem which gives

them the urge to

murder. Whereas my

kill, Beth Cheshire, kills

people out of obedience

to the person that the

audience believes to be

her boss.

Killer – Beth Cheshire

Cont.

This worked well because it opened up the whole prospect where the

audience believes only males are murderer’s and only woman can be

victims, and the roles cannot be reversed.

I think that having the female murderer makes my film more

controversial and more modern to how life is in the modern day, where

anyone can be good or evil.

Also having the killer as a teenage has changed the whole age-bias

belief that it is only people in between the ages of that late 20’s

onwards that are likely to be the murderer as people can slowly start

to turn bad at any age.

Victim – Devon Whitworth

In most horror films the

victim is usually a

bottle blonde with blue

eyes and tanned skin.

However I decided to

yet again break the

convention by having a

brunette, pale skinned

girl as my lead

because it is more of a

natural look. Also most of the victims are shown being targeted because of breaking the

murderers heart, or somehow causing some sort of problems for the family.

Therefore causing the event of the death to occur, however, I decided to use

someone that as far as the audience is aware is perfectly innocent.

This worked well because it made the victim more

likably and the female audience can relate to it more

giving the film slight mundane realism.

Also making the girl look as natural as possible

means that the audience will relate and sympathize

with the victim more, forming a bond .

Soundtrack

For my company music logo clip I

decided to use a cliché horror music

clip. Where it was low and sharp with a

slightly edgy feel to it. I decided to use

this piece of music for my company

logo cause it seemed to set the mood

for the film.

For my second clip of music, which will be used for the majority of my

opening, I chose a piece of dub-step music with a suspense feel to it. I picked

the dubstep remix version as it gave the music a modern view, also with the

sharp beats I could make intentional jump cuts to see what would fit and what

wouldn't’t to give my video more of an alternative edge.

Costume

Usually in horror films the victim is dressed in skimpy outfits that show off their extremely skinny bodies which is practically screaming at the murderer to kill them.

I decided to dress my victim in natural everyday clothing such as skinny jeans, a hoodie, coat and trainers. I did this because it is the type of clothes most girls wear on a day to day basis making the reality of them being a victim more likely to give the film in an extra shock factor.

Also for my killer, instead of having a signature outfit that makes them stand out from the rest of the crowd so you already register them as a shifty character, I decided to dress her as close as possible to my victim to give the audience the idea that anyone could be a killer.
