CHALLENGING TODOROV’S THEORY

I have challenged Todorov’s Theory during my music video by beginning the video in Todorov’s third stage before going back to the second stage further into the music video.

CHALLENGING TODOROV’S THEORY

I challenged Todorov’s theory due to the length of time that I had for my music video I felt that it wouldn’t work if I tried to include all five stages of Todorov’s theory I feel that it might get very confusing for the audience as they might not be able to keep up with what is going with in the music video.

I decided to include stages 2 and 3 which are the disruption and the resolution. I decided to use the disruption as a flash back and the resolution as the norm as I felt that this would be easy for the audience to follow. To distinguish the difference between the two stages I changed the disruption stage in to black and white in order to show that it was a flashback and was before the current situation.

RESEARCH Before deciding on what type of music video to do I got people who are in my target audience to take part in a survey that I used to help me when I was choosing what type of music video I was going to create. Below is the pie chart from this research.

RESEARCH From this research I decided to incorporate one of the more preferred types music videos with one of the less preferred types of music video to appeal to a large group of people and a smaller group of people. I chose not to use both of the most like music videos as I felt that they were too different and wouldn't work well together so I decided to use narrative as the main type of music video in mine and performance as the other one only featuring in the video a few times whereas narrative is used throughout the rest of the video.

LIP SYNC I decided that I would include the lip sync in my video after I decided that I would include lip syncing rather than instruments as I felt that it would be easier but would also add a chance to show off the emotion in the performance and therefore it allowed me to continue to show the theme off the music video in a deeper way. I felt that by using the lip sync I was using a convention used in many music videos in order to really show off the emotion in the performance

DIGIPAK CONVENTIONS When designing my digipak I decided that there were many genre conventions that I need to follow in order to make the digipak successful. I felt that these conventions were the key to making my digipak a success.

I chose to follow the conventions such as

• Company Logo

• Barcode

• Track List

• Lyric Booklet

• Copy write information

Page 9: Evaluation Question 1

DIGIPAK CONVENTIONS I decided again to follow conventions when creating my lyric booklet because I looked at several successful lyric booklets from different albums and found that in many lyric booklets there were similarites and I decided to feature them in my lyric booklet in order to make it as successful as I could. The conventions I followed in regards to my lyric booklet .

• Simple typeface

• Consistent positioning

• Differentiation between title and lyrics

• Exact same order as Track list

WEBPAGE CONVENTIONS For my webpage I decided to look at many webpages that already existed and looked at the conventions of these websites. I also decided to keep important information for fans at the top and the page and less important information for fans at the bottom of the page.

The conventions I followed for the webpage are

• Links to pre-ordering the CD

• Link to the video

• Contact information

• Most important details first (CD release date)

LINKING THE WEBSITE AND THE DIGIPAK I decided that it was important to link my digipak and my website together in order to show that they are for the same artist and to show continuity between the products and show a clear theme between the products. I did this through

• Consistent colour scheme

• Consistent artist name spelling (TiCH)

• Featuring the digipak on the website

Page 12: Evaluation Question 1

LINKING THE WEBSITE, DIGIPAK AND MUSIC VIDEOIt was important that when creating these products to show consistency through out the brand. I took inspiration for this from the branding of Ed Sheeran Multiply where this was branded all over the website and the music video for a track on the album coinsided with the announcement of the album. This is why I decided to show consistency through out my brand. Through the website, digipak and music video there is an underlining theme of friendship which all though isn’t always obvious it is there and this links everything together and shows consistency throughout the whole brand.
