Evaluation Question 2

How does your media product represent particular social groups?

Page 2: Evaluation question 2

The representation of social groups within our opening sequence is critical to be able to make the audience to be able to understand who the characters are and what they are doing. As a group we wanted to represent our characters in a stereotypical way of ‘gangsters’ to do this we had to use costumes, props and cultural signifiers for it to work. We used setting to show that they were in a negative area such as graffiti, ally ways which are all stereotypically viewed as that’s where gangs normally ‘hang out’. For example, we used black trousers for the gangsters as black shows death and evil. Whereas the hoodies was showing different colors to show the different personality's such as Luke (gang member) wearing a blue hoodie, showing he is the innocent one in the group and Ed wearing a dark red hoodie to show he is the fire in the group as he is trying to be undercover.

Hoodie to try and fit in with the gang, as he is an under cover cop.

Doesn’t want to look formal so he is casual jeans to fit in.

Hairstyle is scruffy and not neat to show he doesn’t care about his appearance with being smart.

They are all wearing hoodies as they are part of the gang.

They are all wearing black jeans which is symbolism as they are all part of one gang.

The hands in pockets shows intimidation towards Ed.

2 of them have there heads down to show the leaders of the group.

We made Ed wear a dark red hoodie as he was the one undercover. This also shows the sign of blood as this is also a dark red. As Mikey (gang member) was wearing a red hoodie, this gave Ed an idea of what he should look like when trying to be undercover when in the gang. We also made him wear blue jeans so he stood out from the crowd which would allow the gang to realize that he is undercover.

We can see from the gang above, that they are all wearing different colors. Lewis is wearing light grey which shows leadership which we want to betray to the audience. Mikey was wearing bright red showing violence as well as fire within the gang. Luke and Barney was wearing blue showing the innocents within the group. Jacob is wearing dark green which shows he is the safest one of the group but also is jealous and envy's Lewis as he is the leader of the group.
